| lingua cerebelli | A tongue-shaped sequence of flattened cerebellar folia forming the anterior (or superior) extreme of the cerebellar vermis, extending forward on the surface of the superior medullary velum between the two emerging superior cerebellar peduncles. Synonym: lingula cerebelli, lingua cerebelli, tongue of cerebellum. (05 Mar 2000) |

| lingua | <zoology> A tongue. A median process of the labium, at the under side of the mouth in insects, and serving as a tongue. Origin: L, the tongue. Source: Websters Dictionary (01 Mar 1998) |

| lingua dissecta | <clinical sign> A benign condition where there is a map-like appearance to the tongue resulting from irregular denuded patches in the surface (loss of tongue papillae). Likely secondary to local irritation from hot or spicy foods, alcohol or tobacco. There are no significant complications. (27 Sep 1997) |
| lingua fissurata | A painless condition of the tongue characterised by numerous grooves or furrows on the dorsal surface. Synonym: grooved tongue, lingua fissurata, lingua plicata, scrotal tongue. (05 Mar 2000) |
| lingua frenata | A tongue with a very short frenum constituting tongue-tie. (05 Mar 2000) |
| lingua geographica | <clinical sign> A benign condition where there is a map-like appearance to the tongue resulting from irregular denuded patches in the surface (loss of tongue papillae). Likely secondary to local irritation from hot or spicy foods, alcohol or tobacco. There are no significant complications. (27 Sep 1997) |
| lingua nigra | In canines, a disorder associated with a deficency of nicotinic acid. Black to yellowish brown discoloration of the dorsum of the tongue due to staining by exogenous material such as the components of tobacco; usually superimposed on hairy tongue. Synonym: lingua nigra, melanoglossia, nigrities linguae. (05 Mar 2000) |
| lingua plicata | A painless condition of the tongue characterised by numerous grooves or furrows on the dorsal surface. Synonym: grooved tongue, lingua fissurata, lingua plicata, scrotal tongue. (05 Mar 2000) |
| ala cerebelli | The lateral winglike projection of the central lobule of the cerebellum. Synonym: ala lobuli centralis, ala cerebelli. (05 Mar 2000) |
| alae lingulae cerebelli | Small lateral prolongations of the lingula of the vermis of the cerebellum resting on the dorsal surface of the superior cerebellar peduncle. Synonym: alae lingulae cerebelli. (05 Mar 2000) |
| amygdala cerebelli | A rounded lobule on the undersurface of each cerebellar hemisphere, continuous medially with the uvula of the cerebellar vermis. Synonym: tonsilla cerebelli, amygdala cerebelli. (05 Mar 2000) |
| arteria cerebelli inferior anterior | <anatomy, artery> Origin, basilar; distribution, lower surface of lateral lobes of cerebellum, choroid plexus in cerebellopontine angle; anastomoses, posterior inferior cerebellar; usual source of labyrinthine artery. Synonym: arteria cerebelli inferior anterior. (05 Mar 2000) |
| arteria cerebelli inferior posterior | <anatomy, artery> Origin, vertebral; distribution, lateral medulla, choroid plexus of fourth ventricle, and cerebellum; anastomoses, superior cerebellar and anterior inferior cerebellar. Synonym: arteria cerebelli inferior posterior. (05 Mar 2000) |
| arteria cerebelli superior | <anatomy, artery> Origin, basilar; distribution, upper surface of cerebellum, colliculi, and most of the cerebellar nuclei; anastomoses, posterior inferior cerebellar. Synonym: arteria cerebelli superior. (05 Mar 2000) |
| brachium conjunctivum cerebelli | A large bundle of nerve fibres that originate from the dentate and interpositus nuclei and emerges from the cerebellum in the rostral direction, along the lateral wall of the fourth ventricle. The bundle submerges from the dorsal surface of the brainstem into the mesencephalic tegmentum, where all of its fibres cross in the massive decussation of the superior cerebellar peduncles. Part of the bundle terminates in the contralateral red nucleus; the bulk of the fibres continue rostrally to parts of the ventral intermediate nucleus of thalamus, ventral posterolateral nucleus of thalamus, and central lateral nucleus of thalamus. Synonym: pedunculus cerebellaris superior, brachium conjunctivum cerebelli. (05 Mar 2000) |
| vallecula cerebelli | A deep hollow on the inferior surface of the cerebellum, between the hemispheres, containing the medulla oblongata and the falx cerebelli. Synonym: vallis. (05 Mar 2000) |
