| ligamentum cruciatum anterius | <anatomy> A ligament that stabilises the knee joint. <orthopaedics> A common type of knee sprain which involves injury to the anterior cruciate ligament. The knee with an anterior cruciate ligament injury will usually appear swollen and tender. Reconstruction of the ligament is possible using a fibreoptic procedure, known as arthroscopy, is used in the surgical repair of any of several knee ligaments including the anterior cruciate ligament, lateral or medial meniscus, lateral collateral or medial collateral ligament. Recovery from this procedure is based largely on the ligament repaired and can be highly variable. (06 Oct 1997) |

| ligamentum cruciatum atlantis | The strong ligament that lies posterior to the dens of the axis holding it against the anterior arch of the atlas; it consists primarily of the transverse ligament of the atlas that forms the cross-bar of the cross and is most important functionally, and longitudinal bands of the cruciform ligament, forming the upright or vertical beams of the cross. Synonym: ligamentum cruciforme atlantis, crucial ligament, cruciate ligament of the atlas, ligamentum cruciatum atlantis. (05 Mar 2000) |
| ligamentum cruciatum cruris | A Y-shaped ligament restraining the extensor tendons of the foot distal to the ankle joint. Synonym: retinaculum musculorum extensorum inferius, cruciate ligament of leg, inferior retinaculum of extensor muscles, ligamentum cruciatum cruris. (05 Mar 2000) |
| ligamentum cruciatum posterius | <anatomy> A strong ligament of the knee that originates from the anterolateral surface of the medial condyle of the femur, passes posteriorly and inferiorly between the condyles, and attaches to the posterior intercondylar area of the tibia. (12 Dec 1998) |
| ligamentum cruciatum tertium genus | <anatomy> The band that passes posterior to the posterior cruciate ligament extending between the medial condyle of the femur and the posterior crus of the lateral meniscus. Synonym: ligamentum meniscofemorale posterius, ligamentum cruciatum tertium genus, ligamentum menisci lateralis, Wrisberg's ligament. (05 Mar 2000) |

| corpus quadrigeminum anterius | The paired, larger, rounded anterior eminence of the laminae of mesencephalic tectum; major afferent connections of the superficial layers are the retina and striate cortex; input to deep layers of the colliculus are polymodal. Its efferent connections are with the lower brainstem and spinal cord (tectobulbar tract and tectospinal tract) and with the pulvinar and other cell groups in the caudal part of the thalamus; participates in extrageniculate visual pathway. Synonym: colliculus superior, anterior quadrigeminal body, corpus quadrigeminum anterius. (05 Mar 2000) |

| crus anterius stapedis | The anterior of the two delicate curving limbs of the stapes that pass from the head of the bone to the base or footplate. Synonym: crus anterius stapedis, anterior limb of stapes. (05 Mar 2000) |
| segmentum anterius | A delimited part or section of an organ or other structure which lies in front of or ventral to the other similar parts or sections. 1) segmentum anterius (hepar); the anterior segment of the right lobe of the liver. 2) segmentum anterius (pulmo dexter et sinister); [S 3]; the anterior segment of the superior lobe of the right and left lungs. 3) anterior segment of the eye; the intraocular segment of the eyeball occupied by the aqueous which lies in front of, and is separated from the vitreous-filled posterior segment by, the lens and zonule; it is subdivided by the iris into anterior and posterior chambers. Synonym: segmentum anterius. (05 Mar 2000) |
