ischemic contracture of the left ventricle Irreversible contraction of the left ventricle of the heart as a complication seen in the early period of cardiopulmonary bypass and now avoided by appropriate cardioplegic solutions.
Synonym: myocardial rigor mortis, stone heart.
(05 Mar 2000)
CancerWEB ¿µ¿µ ÀÇÇлçÀü À¯»ç °Ë»ö °á°ú : 15 ÆäÀÌÁö: 1
posterior vein of left ventricle Arises on the diaphragmatic surface of the heart near the apex, runs to the left and parallel to the posterior interventricular sulcus, and empties in the coronary sinus.
Synonym: vena posterior ventriculi sinistri.
(05 Mar 2000)
left ventricle <anatomy> The muscular chamber of the heart which accepts blood from the left atrium and ejects it into the aorta to the systemic circulation.
(27 Sep 1997)
Volkmann's contracture Ischemic contracture resulting from irreversible necrosis of muscle tissue, produced by a compartment syndrome; classically involves the forearm flexor muscles.
(05 Mar 2000)
contracture <orthopaedics> A condition of fixed high resistance to passive stretch of a muscle, resulting from fibrosis of the tissues supporting the muscles or the joints or from disorders of the muscle fibres.
Origin: L. Contractura
(18 Nov 1997)
contracture deformity Deformity of a limb without discernable primary changes of bone.
(05 Mar 2000)
hip contracture Permanent fixation of the hip in primary positions, with limited passive or active motion at the hip joint. Locomotion is difficult and pain is sometimes present when the hip is in motion. It may be caused by trauma, infection, or poliomyelitis.
(12 Dec 1998)
Dupuytren's contracture <orthopaedics> A painless thickening of the connective tissue in the palmar hand that can lead to difficulty extending the digits.
Causes include hand trauma and genetic predisposition. Features include a painless nodule on the palm, cord-like bands across the palm, thickening of the lines of the palm and curling (contracture) of the 4th and 5th digits. Surgery is performed in some cases unresponsive to conservative measures (splinting, warm soaks, exercises).
(27 Sep 1997)
organic contracture Contracture, usually due to fibrosis within the muscle that persists whether the subject is conscious or unconscious.
Synonym: fixed contracture.
(05 Mar 2000)
fixed contracture Contracture, usually due to fibrosis within the muscle that persists whether the subject is conscious or unconscious.
Synonym: fixed contracture.
(05 Mar 2000)
functional contracture Muscular shortening that ceases during sleep or general anaesthesia, caused by prolonged active muscle contraction.
(05 Mar 2000)
colitis, ischemic Acute vascular insufficiency of the colon usually involving the portion supplied by the inferior mesenteric artery. The symptoms include pain at the iliac fossa, bloody diarrhoea, low-grade fever, abdominal distention, and abdominal tenderness. The classic radiologic sign is thumbprinting due to localised elevation of the mucosa by submucosal haemorrhage or oedema. Ulceration may follow.
(12 Dec 1998)
hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy Damage to cells in the central nervous system (the brain and spinal cord) from inadequate oxygen. Hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy allegedly may cause in death in the newborn period or result in what is later recognised as developmental delay, mental retardation, or cerebral palsy. This is an area of considerable medical and medicolegal debate.
(12 Dec 1998)
ischemic Affected by ischaemia.
(27 Sep 1997)
ischemic colitis <radiology> Precipitating factors: volvulus, carcinoma, cardiovascular disease, history of aortoiliac reconstruction (2%) with ligation of IMA, abrupt onset of lower abdominal pain and rectal bleeding, location: splenic flexure (80%) and rectosigmoid (watershed areas), BE: single contrast prefered (lesions may become effaced with double contrast), serrated mucosa; pseudopolyposis; transverse ridging; thumbprinting on mesenteric side; deep ulcers, CT: thickening of wall; irregular lumen (thumbrinting), curvilinear collection of intramural gas, portal and mesenteric venous air, blood clot in superior mesenteric artery / superior mesenteric vein, Angio (similar to inflammatory disease): normal / slightly attenuated arterial supply, mild acceleration of arteriovenous transit time
(12 Dec 1998)
ischemic hypoxia Tissue hypoxia characterised by tissue oligaemia and caused by arterial or arteriolar obstruction or vasoconstriction.
