| iodotyrosine deiodinase |
an enzyme that catalyzes the removal of iodine from monoiodotyrosine and diiodotyrosine. The reaction is a step in the conservation of iodine by the thyroid. Congenital deficiency of the enzyme results in severe loss of iodine, resulting in hypothyroidism and goiter. Called also iodotyrosine dehalogenase.
