| parietal cells, gastric | Cells of the gastric glands which secrete hydrochloric acid and intrinsic factor. (12 Dec 1998) |
|---|---|
| intracellular | <anatomy> Being or occurring within a body cell or within the body cells. (09 Oct 1997) |
| intracellular canaliculus | <cell biology> A fine canal formed by invagination of the cell membrane into the cytoplasm of a cell, such as those of the parietal cells of the stomach. (05 Mar 2000) |
| intracellular digestion | <cell biology> Digestion within the boundaries of a cell, such as occurs in the protozoa and in phagocytes. (05 Mar 2000) |
| intracellular enzyme | <enzyme> An enzyme that performs its functions within the cell that produces it; most enzyme's are intracellular enzyme's. Synonym: endoenzyme. (05 Mar 2000) |
| intracellular fluid | The fluid within the tissue cells, constituting about 30 to 40% of the body weight. (05 Mar 2000) |
| intracellular membranes | Membranes of subcellular structures. (12 Dec 1998) |
| intracellular toxin | <protein> Heat stable polysaccharide like toxin bound to a bacterial cell. The term is used more specifically to refer to lipopolysaccharide (LPS) of the outer membrane of gram-negative bacteria. There are three parts to the molecule, the Lipid A (six fatty acid chains linked to two glucosamine residues), the core oligosaccharide (branched chain of ten sugars) and a variable length polysaccharide side chain (up to 40 sugar units in smooth forms) that can be removed without affecting the toxicity (rough LPS). Some endotoxin is probably released into the medium and endotoxin is responsible for many of the virulent effects of gram-negative bacteria. (18 Nov 1997) |
| ampulla canaliculi lacrimalis | A slight dilation at the angle of the lacrimal canaliculus immediately beyond the lacrimal punctum. Synonym: ampulla canaliculi lacrimalis. (05 Mar 2000) |
| apertura externa canaliculi cochleae | The external opening of the cochlear aqueduct on the temporal bone medial to the jugular fossa. Synonym: apertura externa canaliculi cochleae. (05 Mar 2000) |
| apertura tympanica canaliculi chordae tympani | The small canal opening found lateral to the pyramidal eminence in the posterior wall of the middle ear cavity from which the chorda tympani nerve emerges to pass anteriorly between the ossicles accompanied by a branch of the stylomastoid artery. Synonym: apertura tympanica canaliculi chordae tympani. (05 Mar 2000) |
| bile canaliculi | Minute intercellular channels that occur between liver cells and carry bile towards interlobar bile ducts. Also called bile capillaries. (12 Dec 1998) |
| canaliculi | In bone, channels that run through the calcified matrix between lacunae containing osteocytes. In liver, small channels between hepatocytes through which bile flows to the bile duct and thence to the intestinal lumen. (18 Nov 1997) |
| canaliculi caroticotympanici | Small openings within the carotid canal that afford passage to the tympanic cavity of branches of the internal carotid artery and carotid sympathetic plexus. Synonym: canaliculi caroticotympanici. (05 Mar 2000) |
| canaliculi dentales | Minute, wavy, branching tubes or canals in the dentin; they contain the long cytoplasmic processes of odontoblasts and extend radially from the pulp to the dentoenamel junction. Synonym: dental tubules, dentinal canals, dentinal tubules, tubuli dentales. (05 Mar 2000) |
| intracellular canaliculi of parietal cells |
a system of canaliculi that seem to be intracellular, but are formed by deep invaginations of the surface of the gastric parietal cells rather than extending into the cytoplasm of the cell.
