| inorganic pyrophosphatase |
[EC 3.6.1.1] an enzyme of the hydrolase class that catalyzes the cleavage of a pyrophosphate molecule to form two molecules of orthophosphate. The enzyme is present in all cells and regulates the concentration of endogenous pyrophosphate. Inorganic pyrophosphatase may be identical with alkaline phosphatase in some tissues.
