| hypophosphatemia | An abnormally decreased level of phosphates in the blood. The manifestations include haemolysis, lassitude, weakness, and convulsions. It may be found in hyperparathyroidism, rickets, osteomalacia, and several renal tubular abnormalities. (12 Dec 1998) |
| hypophosphatemia, familial | Familial disorder characterised by hypophosphatemia associated with decreased renal tubular reabsorption of inorganic phosphorus. It is sometimes associated with osteomalacia or rickets which do not respond to the usual doses of vitamin d. (12 Dec 1998) |

| hypophosphatemic bone d. |
an autosomal dominant disorder clinically resembling a mild form of X-linked hypophosphatemia and similarly due to a defect in renal tubular function, but usually showing osteomalacia without radiographic evidence of rickets and responding to calcitriol without supplemental phosphate in at least some cases.

| hypophosphatemic r. |
any of a group of disorders characterized by rickets associated with hypophosphatemia, resulting from dietary phosphorus deficiency (antacid-induced osteomalacia) or due to defects in renal tubular function that may be either hereditary (familial hypophosphatemic rickets) or acquired. While skeletal deformities such as genu varum and short stature are present, neither hypocalcemia, myopathy, nor tetany occur, and serum parathyroid hormone is normal.
