| 설명 | 한국전쟁당시 국내에서 발견되면서 한때 한국형 출혈열(Korean hemorrhagic fever)이라고도 불리웠던 이 병은 갑자기 시작하는 오한, 두통, 근육통을 나타내고 이어서 3~5일 내에 전신 피부 및 공막출혈, 혈소판감소증, 단백뇨 및 신장 기능상실 등이 온다. 말기에는 쇼크 및 저체온이 될 수 있다. 처음 7~10일 간에 살아남은 환자들은 서서히 회복되나 단백뇨의 핍뇨는 수 주간 지속된다. 증세에 따라서 발열기, 저혈압기, 감뇨기, 이뇨기, 회복기로 비교적 특이하게 구분된다. Hantaan virus라고 불리는 이 병원체는 세포질에서 자라는 RNA 바이러스이며 Bunyaviridae과에 속하는 Hanta 바이러스속에 속하는 종(species)으로 한탄 바이러스 이외에 Puumula virus, Hill virus가 있다. 최근에 환자로부터 한탄바이러스와는 구분되는 Seoul virus가 분리, 동정됨에 따라서 야외형(Hantaan virus)과 도시형(Seoul virus)이 병원체가 서로 다르다는 점이 알려졌다. 한국을 비롯하여 만주, 시베리아 등지에서 유행하는 질환으로 알려졌으나 한탄바이러스의 발견을 계기로 혈청검사가 가능해지자 한탄바이러스 내지는 이와 항원구조가 유사한 바이러스로 생기는 감염증이 세계 각처에 분포되어 있다는 것이 판명되었다. 계절적인 발생은 특이하며, 국내에서는 봄과 가을에 두 번의 유행이 있다고 하지만 최근에는 가을의 유행이 크다. 특징적인 육안적 소견은 콩팥속질의 출혈, 오른심방출혈, 뇌하수체 전엽의 괴사이며, 이밖에 후복강 연조직의 심한 부종, 체강내로 누출된 체액 저류, 장막의 산재성 출혈, 돌창자의 점막출혈, 폐부종 내지는 폐출혈 등이다. 조직소견의 특징은 여러 장기의 출혈과 콩팥속질, 뇌하수체, 부신 등에 생기는 초점성 응고성 괴사와 각 장기의 광범성 단핵세포 침윤이며, 세정맥이 확장되고 울혈이 생기고 혈장과 적혈구가 혈관외로 누출되고 부위에 따라서는 초점성 모세혈관 파열이 나타나 있다. |

| 설명 | 박테리아보다 덜 진화된, 생물과 무생물의 중간단계에 해당하는 것. 혼자서는 생존능력이 없으므로 반드시 다른 세포내에 속해 있어야 한다. 인체에 발생하는 많은 병중, 이 바이러스로 인해 발생하는 경우가 많으며, 이 때 대부분 특이한 치료법은 없는 실정이다. 일부 헤르페스바이러스 계통에는 치료약이 개발되어 있지만, 이것도 일부 질병에서만 치료가 가능하다. 또한, Ebstein-Barr virus, Human papilloma virus 등은 암의 발생과 연관되어 있으며, 동물에서 발생하는 대부분의 암종은 바이러스와 연관되어 있는 경우가 많다. 요즘, 일부 지역에서 큰 유행을 하고 있는 후천성면역결핍증후군(AIDS)도 HIV(Human Immunodeficiency Virus)와 관련이 있다. |

| 설명 | 인플루엔자의 병원체. 상기도 점막에 침입하여 호흡기 질환을 일으킨다. 보체 결합 항원의 차이에 따라 A-B-C 세형태로 나뉘며, 유행할 때마다 혈구 응집 항원이 변이하여 광범위한 유행을 나타낸다. 껍질이 있는 80~150nm의 공모양, 나선 대칭 RNA 바이러스이다. 두 종류의 스파이크, 뉴라미니다아제(neuraminidase, NA), 당단백질과 헤마글루티닌(hemagglution, HA) 당단백질을 만든다. A형의 NA에는 N1-N2의 두 종류, HA에는 HAO-HA1-HA2-HA3의 네 종류가 있다. A형은 말-돼지-새에 감염하며 새로운 아형은 동물 바이러스와의 조환형이며, 그 밖에 동일 아형내 점변이가 있다. B, C형은 사람 이외에는 감염되지 않는다. 닭의 적혈구를 응집하는 성질이 있다. 바이러스 진단에는 환자의 인두 세척액에서 분리한다든가, 또는 환자의 혈청항체에 의한 특이적 적혈구 응집저지검사, 뉴라미니다아제 활성저지검사 또는 중화검사 등으로 검출한다. |

| 설명 | 체온조절 중추가 이상을 초래해 체온이 계속 상승하여 지속되고 있는 상태를 말한다. 원인은 다양하며 체온조절 중추의 장애(뇌질환), 조직장애에 의한 것이 있다. 체온은 일반적으로 겨드랑이, 입안, 곧창자에서 재고, 시간은 10분을 필요로 한다. 통상 37℃ 이하(겨드랑이)로, 입안 온도는 이보다 0.1~0.2℃ 높으며, 곧창자온도는 0.2~0.5℃ 높다. 고체온증에서도 동결과 유사한 세포 변화가 나타난다. 즉 혈관내피세포에 손상이 생기고 혈관투과가 증가되어 부종, 수포 등이 형성된다. |
