| actinic cheilitis | Mucosal atrophy with drying, crusting, and fissuring of the vermillion border of the lower lip in older individuals, resulting from chronic exposure to sunlight; dysplastic (premalignant) changes are noted microscopically, analogous to solar keratosis. Synonym: actinic cheilitis. (05 Mar 2000) |
|---|---|
| angular cheilitis | Inflammation and fissuring radiating from the commissures of the mouth secondary to predisposing factors such as lost vertical dimension in denture wearers, nutritional deficiencies, atopic dermatitis, or Candida albicans infection. Synonym: angular stomatitis, commissural cheilitis, perleche. (05 Mar 2000) |
| Volkmann's cheilitis | An acquired disorder, of unknown aetiology, of the lower lip characterised by swelling, ulceration, crusting, mucous gland hyperplasia, abscesses, and sinus tracts. Synonym: Baelz' disease, myxadenitis labialis, Volkmann's cheilitis. (05 Mar 2000) |
| cheilitis | <pathology> Inflammation and cracking of the lips. May occur secondary to a vitamin (C or B-complex) or mineral deficiency. (27 Sep 1997) |
| cheilitis exfoliativa | An exfoliative dermatitis; it may be related to atopic dermatitis or to contact sensitivity. (05 Mar 2000) |
| cheilitis glandularis | An acquired disorder, of unknown aetiology, of the lower lip characterised by swelling, ulceration, crusting, mucous gland hyperplasia, abscesses, and sinus tracts. Synonym: Baelz' disease, myxadenitis labialis, Volkmann's cheilitis. (05 Mar 2000) |
| cheilitis granulomatosa | Chronic, diffuse, soft swelling of the lips, of unknown aetiology, microscopically characterised by noncaseating granulomatous inflammation. See: Melkersson-Rosenthal syndrome. (05 Mar 2000) |
| cheilitis venenata | Allergic contact dermatitis of the lips, as in contact cheilitis. (05 Mar 2000) |
| commissural cheilitis | Inflammation and fissuring radiating from the commissures of the mouth secondary to predisposing factors such as lost vertical dimension in denture wearers, nutritional deficiencies, atopic dermatitis, or Candida albicans infection. Synonym: angular stomatitis, commissural cheilitis, perleche. (05 Mar 2000) |
| contact cheilitis | Inflammation of the lips resulting from contact with a primary irritant or specific allergen, including ingredients of lipsticks. (05 Mar 2000) |
| solar cheilitis | Mucosal atrophy with drying, crusting, and fissuring of the vermillion border of the lower lip in older individuals, resulting from chronic exposure to sunlight; dysplastic (premalignant) changes are noted microscopically, analogous to solar keratosis. Synonym: actinic cheilitis. (05 Mar 2000) |
| impetiginous cheilitis | Pyoderma of the lips. (05 Mar 2000) |
| allergic granulomatous angiitis | <syndrome> Widespread necrotizing angiitis with granulomas. Pulmonary involvement is frequent. Asthma or other respiratory infection may precede evidence of vasculitis. Eosinophilia and lung involvement differentiate this disease from polyarteritis nodosa. (12 Dec 1998) |
| regional granulomatous lymphadenitis | <disease> A self-limiting bacterial infection of the regional lymph nodes (lymphadenitis) caused by afipia felis, a gram-negative bacterium recently identified as bartonella henselae. It usually arises one or more weeks following a feline scratch, with raised inflammatory nodules at the site of the scratch being the primary symptom. It results in tender and enlarged lymph glands above the site of injury. A chronic benign adenopathy, especially in children and young adults, commonly associated with a recent cat scratch or bite and caused by bacteria including Bartonella henselae and Alipia felis; the lymphadenopathy usually resolves spontaneously within a period of several months, but complications involving central nervous system, liver, spleen, lung, and skin have been seen. Synonym: benign inoculation lymphoreticulosis, benign inoculation reticulosis, cat-scratch fever, regional granulomatous lymphadenitis. (05 Mar 2000) |
| granulomatous | Having the characteristics of a granuloma. (05 Mar 2000) |
