| 설명 | 대개 에탄올(ethanol, ethyl alcohol)을 지칭하는 말이다. 물과 같이 맑은 색이지만 특이한 냄새가 있고 끓는 점이 낮은 액체이다. 농도가 높은 것은 의료용 또는 소독제로 쓰이고 낮은 농도로 된 것은 음료(술)로도 이용된다. |

| 설명 | 지방족 포화알코올의 하나. 각종 알코올 음료 속에 함유되어 있어 주정이라고도 하고, 또 에탄올이라고도 한다. 보통 알코올이라고 하면 이 에틸알코올을 가리킨다. 술의 성분으로서 예전부터 알려져 있었으나, 술이 취하는 원인이 에탄올에 있다는 것을 안 것은 15세기 이후의 일이다. 조성은 처음에 라부아지에나 N.T. 소슈르 등에 의해 측정되고, 게이뤼삭이나 J.B. 뒤마 등에 의해서 확정되었다. 알코올이라는 이름은 원래 눈썹에 칠하는 흑색 안료顔料를 가리키는 아라비아어였는데. 이것의 미소분말을 만드는데 승화법을 사용한 데서 술을 증류하여 가연성 엑스를 만드는 것으로 전화轉化하고, 이것이 다시 증류물을 가리키는 말이 되었다. 알코올이라는 말이 에탄올을 가리키게 되고, 다시 알코올 전반을 가리키게 된 것은 19세기 이후의 일이다. 에탄올을 복용하면 대뇌의 제어기능이 억제되어 흥분상태가 되고, 이어서 중추신경이 억제된다. 무색투명한 휘발성 액체. 특유한 냄새와 맛을 가지며, 인체에 흡수되면 흥분이나 마취 작용을 일으킨다. 화학약품의 합성 원료, 용제, 연료, 알코올성 음료 따위로 쓴다. 알코올은 간세포에 존재하는 알코올탈수소효소(alcohol dehydrogenase)가 대사한다. 급성 중독 증상은 혈중 알코올 농도와 비례한다. 혈중 알코올 농도가 높아질수록 중추신경계는 억제되어 혈중 농도가 3.5~4.5mg/mL이면 혼수에 빠져 사망할 수도 있다. |

| glyceryl trinitrate | <chemistry> A liquid appearing like a heavy oil, colourless or yellowish, and consisting of a mixture of several glycerin salts of nitric acid, and hence more properly called glycerin nitrate. It is made by the action of nitric acid on glycerin in the presence of sulphuric acid. It is extremely unstable and terribly explosive. A very dilute solution is used in medicine as a neurotic under the name of glonion. A great number of explosive compounds have been produced by mixing nitroglycerin with different substances; as, dynamite, or giant powder, nitroglycerin mixed with siliceous earth; lithofracteur, nitroglycerin with gunpowder, or with sawdust and nitrate of sodium or barium; Colonia powder, gunpowder with nitroglycerin; dualin, nitroglycerin with sawdust, or with sawdust and nitrate of potassium and some other substances; lignose, wood fibre and nitroglycerin. Pharmacologic action: Relaxes smooth muscle - dilates veins, dilates coronary arteries, reduces left ventricular filling pressure, lowers systemic vascular resistance, decreases myocardial oxygen demand. Uses: Treat angina pectoris. Dose: One tablet (0.3 to 0.4 mg) sublingual, may repeat twice at 5 minute intervals Intravenous infusion: 0.5 - 2 mcg/kg per min.
