| 설명 | 남성의 생식기는 여러 기관으로 구성되어 있다. 고환, 부고환, 정관, 정낭, 전립샘, 외부성기(음경) 등으로 구성되는데, 실제적으로 정자를 생성하는 곳은 단 한 곳 고환뿐이며, 나머지 기관은 이를 돕는 기능을 수행하고 있다. 정자는 고환의 정세관이란 곳에서 만들어진 뒤에 밖으로 나와 긴 여정을 시작하게 된다. 그 뒤 부고환을 지나 좀 더 성숙해 진 뒤에 정관에서 정낭의 분비물과 만나고 다시 요도로 나가게 된다. 이때 요도 뒤쪽에 위치하는 전립샘의 분비물이 합쳐지게 되고 이 정액은 외부성기를 거쳐서 밖으로 나가게 된다.  |

| 설명 | 방광에서 체외로 오줌을 운반하는 막성관. 남성의 요도는 전부요도(anterior urethra: 보다 앞쪽에 존재하는, 성기에 가까운 쪽), 즉 성기부(penile part), 망울부(bulbous part)와 후부요도(posterior urethra), 즉 막부(membranous part), 전립샘부(prostatic part)로 나누어진다. 이에 비해 여성의 요도는 이러한 구분이 없고 남성의 요도에 비해 짧고 굵으며 직선에 가깝고 항문으로부터도 가깝다. 이러한 이유로 여성에서는 요도감염이 남성에 비해 흔하다.  |

| 설명 | 갑상샘속에 존재하는 조그만 호르몬 생성기관. 갑상샘속에 숨어 있으므로 눈에 잘 띄지 않는다. 그래서 흔히 갑상샘절제수술시에 같이 절제되어 부갑상샘호르몬감소가 나타나기도 한다. 부갑상샘호르몬을 생성한다. 이 호르몬은 뼈에서 혈액으로 칼슘(calcium)의 이동을 증가시키고, 위장관에서 칼슘의 흡수를 촉진시키며, 콩팥에서의 칼슘분비를 감소시키는 반면에 인산염(phosphate)의 분비를 촉진시켜, 결국은 혈중칼슘의 농도를 증가시키고 혈중인산염의 농도를 감소시킨다. 또한 이 호르몬은 비타민 D의 전환을 증가시킨다. 너무 지나친 부갑상샘호르몬의 분비가 있을 경우 골다공증(osteoporosis: 뼈에 구멍이 생기는 병적상태)과 다른 조직의 석회화를 볼 수 있다.  |
