| 설명 | 뇌하수체의 성장호르몬을 분비하는 세포에서 종양이 생겼을 경우에 과도한 성장 호르몬의 생성으로 발생되는 병이다. 뼈에서 길이의 성장을 담당하는, 연골로 구성되어 있는 부위인 뼈끝이 연골에서 뼈가 생성 되어서 뼈의 길이의 성장이 일어난다. 성장이 다 된 뼈에서는 이 연골판이 없어지게 되어 양쪽의 뼈가 융합이 되고 이것이 있던 부위에 하나의 선만이 남게 된다. 뼈끝 융합이 일어나기 전에 종양이 생겼을 때는 거인증(giantism)이 일어나지만 뼈끝융합이 일어난 후에 생겼을 때는 말단비대증(acromegaly)이라는 병이 일어난다. 거인증은 소아기에는 매우 드물며, 대부분이 과도한 성장이 있는 사춘기에 일어난다. 과도한 성장호르몬의 분비에 의해서 뼈, 연골, 섬유조직 등의 과도한 성장이 있게 된다. 일반적으로 자각 증상은 없는 경우가 보통이며 있는 경우도 있지만 아주 경미하다. 머리뼈나 아래턱뼈가 아주 두터워지고 모든 뼈의 굵기나 크기가 증가된다. 뼈의 기능은 모두 정상이나 근육의 힘이 약해 있는 것이 대부분이다. 검사상으로 혈액중에 성장 호르몬치가 높으며, 치료는 외과적으로 뇌하수체에 생긴 종양을 절제하는 방법과 방사선을 쬐어서 그 종양을 없애는 방법이 있다. |
