개복술, 측복 절개술

복강 내의 여러 장기의 질병을 수술, 검사하기 위하여 배를 가르는 일. 19세기 이후 발달된 의술이다. 목적한 장기에 따라 절개법은 다르나, 복벽 조직의 해부학적 구조나 특질을 고려하여 불필요한 조직의 손상은 되도록 피하여야 하며, 그러기 위하여 정중선 상의 세로 절개가 유리하다. 복벽은 피부, 근육, 복막으로 이루어지는데, 다만 피부와 근육을 절개할 뿐, 복막을 절개하지 않을 경우에는 개복술이라고 하지 않는다. 때로는 흉강의 장기를 수술하는 데 개복술을 이용하는 경우가 있는데, 이것을 경복적 개흉술이라 한다. 반대로 복강 내의 장기 수술에 개흉술을 이용할 경우에는 경흉적 개복술이라고 한다. 처음부터 검사를 목적으로 개복술을 쓸 때도 있다. 또 개복은 했더라도 근치 수술이 불가능할 때는 그대로 복벽을 닫는 경우가 있는데, 이러한 개복술을 진사 개복술 또는 시험 개복술이라고 한다.
