| 설명 | 줄여서 팝도말검사(Pap smear)이라고 부른다. 여성의 자궁목암의 발생을 미리 알아보기 위해 시행하는 검사법으로 미국에서는 이 방법으로 현재 자궁목암발생에 의한 사망률을 현저히 낮추고 있다. 방법은 산부인과에서 시행하며, 여성의 자궁목에서 세포를 가져다가 도말하여 현미경으로 검사한다. 요즈음에 와서는 자궁목뿐 아니라 호흡기나 비뇨기 등 분비물을 도말하여 파파니콜로 염색을 하여 검사하는 것도 여기에 포함된다. (그림 P-3). |

| 설명 | 음식물의 찌꺼기같은 이물이 기도에 들어가 이차적으로 생기는 폐렴. 음식물이나 입안의 미생물이 식도로 넘어가지 않고 기도로 잘못 흡인되어 야기되는 폐렴을 말한다. 흡인 물질의 특성에 따라서 세 가지 증후군을 포함한다. ① 화학적 폐렴은 직접적으로 폐에 유해한 물질을 흡인했을 때 일어나며, 급성 호흡곤란, 빠른 호흡, 빠른맥이 나타나고 동반되는 증상은 주로 청색증, 기관지 경련, 열 등이다. ② 하기도의 세균성 감염이 흡인성 폐렴의 가장 흔한 형태로, 기침, 발열, 고름가래 증상을 나타낸다. ③ 하기도의 기계적 폐쇄는 특별한 물질, 특히 땅콩, 작은 고기덩어리에 의해 흡인되었을 때 일어나며, 흡인 물질과 기도의 직경에 따라 증상은 다르다. 기관에서 막히면 종종 호흡곤란과 함께 사망에 이르기도 하며, 하기도 아래 부분에서 흡인이 일어나면 만성 기침이 발생한다. |

| sarcoma, endometrial stromal | A highly malignant neoplasm of the endometrium, arising from the endometrial stroma. It represents one type of stromal tumour, the other being endolymphatic stromal myosis. They are differentiated on the basis of the number of mitoses per 10 high power fields: endometrial stromal sarcoma has 10 or more mitoses, endolymphatic stromal myosis fewer. | endometrial polyp | <gynaecology> A benign growth on the lining of the uterus (endometrium) that are many times asymptomatic.
