| 설명 | 소리를 인지하여 전기적 신호로 바꾸는 역할을 하는 달팽이의 속을 채우고 있는 액체의 하나. 달팽이 속을 들여다 보면 안뜰계단(scala vestibuli), 고실계단(scala tympani), 중간계단(scala media)의 3개의 층으로 이루어져 있다. 이들은 모두 액체로 채워져 있는데 안뜰계단과 고실계단은 외림프(perilymph)라는 것으로 채워져있고 중간계단은 내림프로 채워져 있다. 귀로 들어오는 소리는 고막을 진동시킨다. 그리고 이 고막의 진동은 귀속의 작은 뼈인 귀속 뼈로 전달이 된다. 이 소골들은 고막의 진동에 따라 같이 움직이며 이 진동을 달팽이의 안뜰계단으로 전달을 한다. 그렇게 되면 이 안뜰계단의 속을 채우고 있는 외림프가 진동을 하게 되고 이 진동은 중간계단과 중간계단을 경계짓고 있는 Reissner 막을 진동시키고, 이 진동에 의해서 내림프가 역시 진동하여 중간계단에 있는 털세포(hair cell)에 전해질 경우에 털세포가 이 진동을 전기적 신호로 바꾸어서 대뇌로 전달을 하여 소리를 듣게 되는 것이다. 내림프의 조성은 칼륨이 많고 나트륨이 적은데 외림프의 저칼륨 고나트륨이라는 조성과 차이가 난다. 이 차이에 의해서 80mV정도의 전위의 차이를 유지한다고 하고 이것이 소리를 느끼는데 관계한다고 한다. |

| endolymphatic hydrops | A name applied to recurrent vertigo accompanied by ringing in the ears (tinnitus) and deafness. A dysfunction of the semi-circular canals (endolymphatic sac) in the inner ear. Symptoms include dizziness, hearing loss (one-sided), vertigo, nausea, vomiting and abnormal eye movements.
