| 설명 | 1. 어떤 원인으로 인해 호흡과 순환이 정지하여 가사상태에 있는 자, 또는 그 상태대로 방치하면 죽음에 이를 위험이 있는 자에 대해 호흡과 순환의 기능을 회복시켜 일상생활에 지장이 없는 상태를 확보해 주기 위한 방법. 정확-신속한 대응이 필요하다. 심폐소생법이라고도 한다. 산소공급이 3~4분간 이상 차단되면 뇌, 심장 등 중요 장기에 비가역적, 치사적 장애가 생기므로 4분 이내에 산소공급을 하는 것이 열쇠이다. 2. 방치해두면 죽게 되는 상태에 있을 때, 즉 죽음 직전에 실시하는 적절한 회생조치. 일반적으로 호흡정지-심장정지의 회복술을 말할 때가 많다. 호흡의 정지는 물에 빠진 경우와 유독가스를 들이마신 경우 외에, 목이 졸린 경우에도 일어나는 일이 있다. 물에 빠진 경우는 폐에 흡입된 물을 재빨리 제거하고 인공호흡을 하는 데, 물을 토하게 하는 것보다 인공호흡이 앞서야 한다는 것을 잊어서는 안된다. 가스중독일 때는 안전한 곳으로 옮기고 인공호흡을 한다. 목이 졸린 경우는 목을 맨 것을 풀고 인공호흡을 한다. 인공호흡법에는 여러 가지가 있으나, 구급을 요할 때는 입으로 공기를 불어 넣어주는 직접법이 잘 쓰인다. 준비가 되어 있으면 인공호흡기를 사용하는 것이 좋다. 심장정지의 경우는 호흡정지를 수반하는 경우가 많고, 또 그것에 기인되는 일이 많으므로 우선 인공호흡을 해야 한다. 동시에 심장마사지를 하는데, 이에는 흉벽 밖으로부터 행하는 방법과 흉곽을 절개하여 직접 하는 방법이 있다. 심장정지가 5분 이상이 되면 심박동의 재개에 성공해도 뇌의 기능회복은 어려우므로 시간을 다투어 처치해야 한다. |

| 설명 | 심장이 정지했을 경우나, 물에 빠졌을 때와 같이 심장과 폐의 기능이 중지되었을 경우에 인공적으로 심장과 폐의 기능을 대신하여 주는 방법을 말한다. 심폐소생술의 기본은 ABC인데 이것은 airway(기도의 확보-기도의 이 물질을 제거하고 기도를 막고 있는 기타의 것을 없앤다), breathing(호흡의 유지-정상적인 폐의 기능을 유지하게 한다), circulation(혈액순환의 유지-심장의 기능을 정상적으로 만들어서 혈액의 순환을 정상적으로 유지하게 한다)의 앞자를 딴 것이다. 가장 기본적인 심폐소생술의 방법을 소개하면 다음과 같다. 1.기도의 확보(airway)-환자의 턱을 앞으로 당기고 머리는 뒤쪽으로 민다. 그리고는 손까락을 입속으로 잡아 넣어서 턱을 밀어서 입을 최대한 벌어지게 한다. 그리고 입속에 이물질이 있으면 제거한다(이렇게 하지 않으면 기도가 혀에 눌려서 막히게 된다). 2.호흡의 유지(breathing)-만약 환자가 숨을 쉬지 않을 경우에는 위의 자세에서 코를 한 손으로 막고 환자의 입에다가 입을 대고 힘차게 공기를 불어 넣는다. 이때 공기가 코나 다른 곳으로 새지 않게 주의를 한다. 그리고는 입을 떼어 불어 넣은 공기가 빠져 나오게 한다. 이때 환자의 가슴의 상하운동을 확인하여 적절히 시행이 되고 있는지 확인할 수가 있다. 호흡을 환자 자신이 스스로 할 수 있을 때까지 3-4초 간격으로 시행한다. 3.혈액순환의 유지(circulation)-만약 환자의 심장이 정지하였을 경우에는 환자를 반듯이 눕히고 시행자는 한 손을 명치 약간 위에 얹는다. 그리고는 나머지 한 손을 그 손위에 겹치고 환자의 가슴을 누른다. 이때 조심해야할 것은 시행자는 반드시 팔을 펴서 체중을 이용해서 수직으로 환자의 심장을 3~4cm정도 가슴이 들어가게 1분에 60번 정도의 횟수로 눌러야한다는 것이다. 이렇게 해서도 심장, 허파의 기능이 회복되지 않을 경우에는 여러 가지 약물이나 기구를 이용하여 심폐소생술을 시행한다. |

| cardiopulmonary resuscitation | <procedure> A life saving procedure that includes the timed external compression of the anterior chest wall (to stimulate blood flow) by pumping the heart, and alternating with mouth to mouth breathing to provide oxygen. Usually administered by one rescuer as 15 chest compressions to every 2 mouth-to-mouth breaths. In the case of an early heart attack, death can often be avoided if a bystander starts CPR promptly (within 5 minutes of the onset of ventricular fibrillation). When paramedics arrive, medications and/or electrical shock (cardioversion) to the heart can be administered to convert ventricular fibrillation to a normal heart rhythm.
