We examined the chromosomes of 2766 larvae, of which 2060 (75%) from 108 sites were analysed completely (ie all bands of the entire chromosomal complement were read); incompletely analysed specimens resulting from poor chromosome quality were excluded from analyses. Complete analyses for individual group members ranged from 72% of larvae in S. perflavum to 82% in S. 'X'. All larvae had a chromosome number of n = 3. ...
