| 설명 | 유전병의 하나로 땀샘, 기관지에서 점액을 분비하는 샘, 이자등의 외분비샘(몸 밖으로 액체를 분비하는 샘. 내분비샘을 제외한 모든 샘을 이른다)의 이상을 특징으로 하는 병이다. 중요한 병적인 변화는 주로 기관지에서 점액을 분비하는 분비샘에서 지나치게 점도가 높은 점액이 분비되어 기관지를 막아 호흡장애를 일으키는 폐의 병터이며, 땀에서 과도한 전해질 특히 염화나트륨(NaCl)이 분비되어 몸에 전해질이 부족하게 된다. 또 이자의 소화액을 분비하는 분비샘의 이상으로 이자관이 막히거나 이자의 기능이 떨어져서 소화의 장애를 일으키기도 한다. 유태계에 많으며 우리나라에는 아주 드물다. |

| 설명 | 목에 있는 나비모양의 내분비샘인 갑상샘이 커지는 것. 단순히 갑상샘이 커진 상태를 이르는 말로 인이나 특별한 병적인 상태를 의미하는 말은 아니다. 그러므로 갑상샘종이라고 해서 반드시 갑상샘호르몬의 분비가 증가했다고 말할 수가 없으며, 또 갑상선에 암이 생겼다는 것을 의미하는 것도 아니다. 샘종성 갑상샘종(adenomatous goiter): 갑상샘 호르몬을 분비하는 세포에서 생긴 종양으로 인해서 갑상샘이 커진 경우를 말한다. 지방병성 갑상샘종(endemic goiter): 알프스 산간 지방, 히말라야 등의 지방에 사는 사람들에게서 집단적으로 생기는 경우를 말한다. 주로 갑상샘호르몬의 생산에 꼭 필요한 요오드의 섭취가 부족한 곳의 사람들에게서 잘 생긴다. 안구돌출성 갑상샘종(exophthalmic goiter): 눈알의 돌출과 함께 나타나는 갑상샘종으로 일명 그레이브스병(Graves' disease)이라고 한다. 갑상샘의 종대와 갑상샘호르몬의 과다분비가 특징인 병이다. 결절성 갑상샘종(nodular goiter): 갑상샘안에 결절이 있는 갑상샘종. |

| 설명 | 일명 그레이브스병(Graves disease)이라고 불리며, 갑상샘의 비대와 갑상샘호르몬의 과다분비가 특징인 병이다. 이 병은 주로 25~50세에 흔히 발생하고 주로 여자에게 많이 생긴다. 갑상샘호르몬은 저장되어 있는 에너지를 소모하여 신체의 대사율을 높이는 호르몬이므로 입맛이 좋은 데도 불구하고 계속적인 체중의 감소, 그리고 축적된 에너지를 소모하여 열 생산을 많이 하여서 더위를 참기 힘들어하므로 만성 쇠약감이나 근력의 약화를 보일 수가 있다. 그리고 눈에 특징적인 증상이 나타나는데, 눈꺼풀이 비정상적으로 위로 올라가 있고, 눈이 아래의 물건을 주시할 경우에 눈꺼풀이 정상적으로는 쳐져야 하지만 갑상샘 호르몬이 과도하게 나올 경우에는 눈꺼풀이 처지지 않는다. 또 눈알이 앞쪽으로 돌출하는 것을 볼 수가 있고, 피부가 아주 부드럽고 물기가 많아서 축축하다. 특징적으로 다리의 앞쪽에 피부가 두꺼워진다. |
