| distribution function | <radiobiology> Function characterising the density of particles located at a given point in phase space (a combination of velocity and/or position coordinates) at a given time. The velocity-space distribution function gives the number of particles with a particular velocity, the position-space distribution function is synonymous with the particle density in position-space. Different combinations of position and spatial coordinates are useful in different problems. (09 Oct 1997) |

| cumulative | Increasing or growing by accumulation or successive additions. (18 Nov 1997) |
| cumulative action | The condition in which repeated administration of a drug may produce effect's that are more pronounced than those produced by the first dose. Synonym: cumulative action. (05 Mar 2000) |
| cumulative dose | The total dose resulting from repeated exposures to radiation of the same part of the body or of the whole body. (05 Mar 2000) |
| cumulative effect | The condition in which repeated administration of a drug may produce effect's that are more pronounced than those produced by the first dose. Synonym: cumulative action. (05 Mar 2000) |
| cumulative effects | Effects on the environment resulting from actions that are individually minor but that add up to a greater total effect as they take place over a period of time. (05 Dec 1998) |
| Cumulative Index Medicus | Collection of medical literature, published annually, which began in the US Army Surgeon General's office in the last century. It has been taken over by the National Library of Medicine and has evolved into a database called MEDLINE. (05 Mar 2000) |
| cumulative trauma disorders | Harmful and painful condition caused by overuse or overexertion of some part of the musculoskeletal system, often resulting from work-related physical activities. It is characterised by inflammation, pain, or dysfunction of the involved joints, bones, ligaments, and nerves. (12 Dec 1998) |
| age distribution | The frequency of different ages or age groups in a given population. The distribution may refer to either how many or what proportion of the group. The population is usually patients with a specific disease but the concept is not restricted to humans and is not restricted to medicine. (12 Dec 1998) |
| Bernoulli distribution | <statistics> The probability distribution associated with two mutually exclusive and exhaustive outcomes, e.g., death or survival. (14 Aug 2000) |
| binomial distribution | The probability distribution associated with two mutually exclusive outcomes; used to model cumulative incidence rates and prevalence rates. The bernoulli distribution is a special case of binomial distribution. (12 Dec 1998) |
| gaussian distribution | Continuous frequency distribution of infinite range. Its properties are as follows: 1) continuous, symmetrical distribution with both tails extending to infinity; 2) arithmetic mean, mode, and median identical; and 3) shape completely determined by the mean and standard deviation. (12 Dec 1998) |
| chi-square distribution | A distribution in which a variable is distributed like the sum of the the squares of any given independent random variable, each of which has a normal distribution with mean of zero and variance of one. The chi-square test is a statistical test based on comparison of a test statistic to a chi-square distribution. The oldest of these tests are used to detect whether two or more population distributions differ from one another. (12 Dec 1998) |
| multinomial distribution | Probability distribution associated with the classification of each of a sample of individuals into one of several mutually exclusive and exhaustive categories. (05 Mar 2000) |
| contagious distribution | <epidemiology> Same as an aggregated distribution. (05 Dec 1998) |
| cumulative distribution function |
Same as distribution function.

| cumulative distribution function |
For a given value, the area under the probability function up to that value (ie cdf(x) = Pr[X<=x]). When calculated as part of deriving the relative index of inequality, the cumulative distribution function of an area-based socioeconomic measure (ordered from most affluent to most deprived) for a given value can be interpreted as the proportion of the population who are more affluent.

| cumulative distribution function |
The zero to 100 percent successive probability for each observed value in a probability distribution. Cumulative probability functions (CDFs) are normally used to express the total probability (zero to 100 percent) for a specified level of output variables (cost and schedule variables) following the probabilistic simulation analysis.
