| crista sacralis | One of three rough irregular ridges on the posterior surface of the sacrum; median sacral crest; lateral sacral crests. Synonym: crista sacralis. (05 Mar 2000) |
|---|---|
| crista sacralis mediana | An unpaired crest formed by the fused spinous processes of the upper four sacral vertebrae. Synonym: crista sacralis mediana. (05 Mar 2000) |
| ala sacralis | The upper surface of the lateral part of the sacrum adjacent to the body. Synonym: ala sacralis. (05 Mar 2000) |
| ansa sacralis | A nerve cord connecting one or both of the sympathetic nerve trunks with the ganglion impar. (05 Mar 2000) |
| arteria sacralis lateralis | <anatomy, artery> Usually one of two arteries which arise from the internal iliac artery or its branches; they supply muscles and skin in the neighborhood and send branches into the sacral canal, supplying radicular and spinal arteries, and continuing on to the skin and subcutaneous tissues overlying the sacrum. Synonym: arteria sacralis lateralis. (05 Mar 2000) |
| arteria sacralis mediana | <anatomy, artery> Origin, posterior aspect of abdominal aorta just above the bifurcation; distribution, lower lumbar vertebrae, sacrum, and coccyx; anastomoses, lateral sacral, superior and middle rectal. Synonym: arteria sacralis mediana, middle sacral artery. (05 Mar 2000) |
| canalis sacralis | The continuation of the vertebral canal in the sacrum. Synonym: canalis sacralis. (05 Mar 2000) |
| vena sacralis mediana | <anatomy, vein> An unpaired vein accompanying the middle sacral artery receiving blood from the sacral venous plexus and emptying into the left common iliac vein. Synonym: vena sacralis mediana. (05 Mar 2000) |
| pars sacralis medullae spinalis | The part of the cord from which consists of the five sacral segments of the spinal cord (S1-S5) and from which five pairs of sacral nerves originate. Synonym: pars sacralis medullae spinalis, segmenta medullae spinalis sacralia. (05 Mar 2000) |
| regio sacralis | The area of the back overlying the sacrum. Synonym: regio sacralis. (05 Mar 2000) |
| plexus sacralis | Formed by the fourth and fifth lumbar (lumbosacral trunk) and first, second, and third sacral nerves; it lies on the inner surface of the posterior wall of the pelvis usually embedded in the piriformis muscle; its nerves supply the lower limbs, its major product being the sciatic nerve. Synonym: plexus sacralis, ischiadic plexus, sciatic plexus. (05 Mar 2000) |
| plexus sacralis medius | A lymphatic plexus formed of lymph nodes and connecting vessels situated chiefly in the mesorectum anterior and inferior to the sacral promontory. Synonym: plexus sacralis medius. (05 Mar 2000) |
| plexus venosus sacralis | A venous plexus on the pelvic surface of the sacrum, formed by tributaries to the lateral sacral veins. Synonym: plexus venosus sacralis. (05 Mar 2000) |
| hiatus sacralis | A normally-occurring gap at the lower end of the sacrum, exposing the vertebral canal, due to failure of the laminae of the last sacral segment to coalesce. It is closed by the sacrococcygeal ligament, and provides cannular access to the sacral epidural space for administration of anaesthetics (caudal nerve blocks). Synonym: hiatus sacralis. (05 Mar 2000) |
| hiatus totalis sacralis | Developmental clefting in all sacral vertebrae; may also involve adjacent lumbar vertebrae. (05 Mar 2000) |
