velum medullare inferius A thin sheet of white matter, hidden by the cerebellar tonsil, attached along the peduncle of the flocculus and, at and near the midline, to the nodulus of the vermis; it is continuous caudally with the epithelial lamina and choroid plexus of the fourth ventricle.
Synonym: velum medullare inferius, posterior medullary velum, Tarin's valve, valvula semilunaris tarini, velum semilunare, velum tarini.
(05 Mar 2000)
velum medullare superius The thin layer of white matter stretching between the two superior cerebellar peduncles, forming the roof of the superior recess of the fourth ventricle.
Synonym: velum medullare superius, anterior medullary velum, Vieussens' valve.
(05 Mar 2000)
cavum medullare The marrow cavity in the shaft of a long bone.
Synonym: cavitas medullaris, cavum medullare.
(05 Mar 2000)
centrum medullare The great mass of white matter composing the interior of the cerebral hemisphere; the name refers to the general shape of this white core in horizontal sections of the hemisphere.
Synonym: centrum medullare, centrum ovale, medullary centre, semioval centre, Vicq d'Azyr's centrum semiovale, Vieussens' centrum.
(05 Mar 2000)
osteoma medullare An osteoma containing spaces that are filled (or partly filled) with various elements of bone marrow.
Osteoid osteoma, a painful benign neoplasm that usually originates in one of the bones of the lower extremities, especially the femur or tibia of adolescent and young adult persons; characterised by a nidus (usually no larger than 1 cm in diameter) that consists of osteoid material, vascularised osteogenic stroma, and poorly formed bone; around the nidus there is a relatively large zone of reactive thickening of the cortex.
Osteoma spongiosum, an osteoma that consists chiefly of cancellous bone tissue.
(05 Mar 2000)
ala cerebelli The lateral winglike projection of the central lobule of the cerebellum.
Synonym: ala lobuli centralis, ala cerebelli.
(05 Mar 2000)
alae lingulae cerebelli Small lateral prolongations of the lingula of the vermis of the cerebellum resting on the dorsal surface of the superior cerebellar peduncle.
Synonym: alae lingulae cerebelli.
(05 Mar 2000)
amygdala cerebelli A rounded lobule on the undersurface of each cerebellar hemisphere, continuous medially with the uvula of the cerebellar vermis.
Synonym: tonsilla cerebelli, amygdala cerebelli.
(05 Mar 2000)
arteria cerebelli inferior anterior <anatomy, artery> Origin, basilar; distribution, lower surface of lateral lobes of cerebellum, choroid plexus in cerebellopontine angle; anastomoses, posterior inferior cerebellar; usual source of labyrinthine artery.
Synonym: arteria cerebelli inferior anterior.
(05 Mar 2000)
arteria cerebelli inferior posterior <anatomy, artery> Origin, vertebral; distribution, lateral medulla, choroid plexus of fourth ventricle, and cerebellum; anastomoses, superior cerebellar and anterior inferior cerebellar.
Synonym: arteria cerebelli inferior posterior.
(05 Mar 2000)
arteria cerebelli superior <anatomy, artery> Origin, basilar; distribution, upper surface of cerebellum, colliculi, and most of the cerebellar nuclei; anastomoses, posterior inferior cerebellar.
Synonym: arteria cerebelli superior.
(05 Mar 2000)
brachium conjunctivum cerebelli A large bundle of nerve fibres that originate from the dentate and interpositus nuclei and emerges from the cerebellum in the rostral direction, along the lateral wall of the fourth ventricle. The bundle submerges from the dorsal surface of the brainstem into the mesencephalic tegmentum, where all of its fibres cross in the massive decussation of the superior cerebellar peduncles. Part of the bundle terminates in the contralateral red nucleus; the bulk of the fibres continue rostrally to parts of the ventral intermediate nucleus of thalamus, ventral posterolateral nucleus of thalamus, and central lateral nucleus of thalamus.
Synonym: pedunculus cerebellaris superior, brachium conjunctivum cerebelli.
(05 Mar 2000)
vallecula cerebelli A deep hollow on the inferior surface of the cerebellum, between the hemispheres, containing the medulla oblongata and the falx cerebelli.
