| 설명 | 액체성 또는 고체성 폐기물이 혼입되어 그대로 사용할 수 없는 물. 높은 소비생활과 각종 산업활동을 하는 현대사회에서는 그러한 물질적 문명활동의 부산물로서 각종 폐기물이 끊임없이 배출되는데 그 중에서 액체형태로 배출되는 것을 가리켜서 폐수라고 한다. 폐수를 출처에 따라서 크게 나누면 가정폐수와 공장폐수로 구분된다. 하수라는 말은 도시 하수도에 유입되는 오수를 가리키며, 액체폐기물과 빗물을 포함한다. 액체폐기물의 구분이 필요하지 않았던 예전에는 상수와 비교되는 하수라는 용어를 널리 사용하여 왔으나, 최근에는 폐수라는 용어가 더 많이 사용된다. 폐수는 도시의 공공하수도를 통해서, 또는 직접적으로 자연수역에 배출된다. 어느 경우나 처리되지 않고 방류될 때 자연수역의 수질을 오염시키게 되며, 정도가 지나치면 공해를 유발한다. |

| 설명 | 자율신경계의 일종으로 내장기능을 주로 항진시켜 활동을 증가시키는 기능을 가진다. 자율신경계의 다른 계열인 부교감신경계는 반대로 내장기능을 억제시켜 에너지를 비축하는 기능을 가진다. 자율신경계의 해부학적 특성은 신경이 중추신경계에서 나와 목표장기에 도달하기 전에 한번의 시냅스(synapse)를 이룬다는 점이며, 따라서 자율신경계는 두 개의 신경(시냅스를 이루기 전의 절전신경과 이룬 후의 절후신경)으로 구성된다. 자율신경계중 교감신경계는 중추신경계 즉 척수 부근의 교감신경절(sympathetic ganglion)에서 시냅스가 일어나고, 부교감 신경계는 중추신경계에서 멀리 떨어진 목표 장기부근의 신경절(ganglion)에서 시냅스가 일어나는 점이 다르다. |
