| normal human plasma | Sterile plasma obtained by pooling approximately equal amounts of the liquid portion of citrated whole blood from eight or more adult humans who have been certified as free from any disease which is tranmissible by transfusion, and treating it with ultraviolet irradiation to destroy possible bacterial and viral contaminants. (05 Mar 2000) |
|---|---|
| citrated | Containing a citrate; specifically denoting blood serum or milk to which has been added a solution of potassium or sodium citrate, or both. (05 Mar 2000) |
| citrated calcium carbimide | A mixture of two parts citric acid to one part calcium carbimide; in the metabolism of ethanol, it slows the conversion of acetaldehyde to acetate; used in the treatment of alcoholism. (05 Mar 2000) |
| human normal immunoglobulin | A preparation of the proteins of liquid human plasma, containing the antibodies of normal adults; it is obtained from pooled liquid human plasma from a number of donors and may be prepared by precipitation with organic solvents under controlled conditions of pH, ionic strength, and temperature. Synonym: human normal immunoglobulin. (05 Mar 2000) |
| normal human serum | Sterile serum obtained by pooling approximately equal amounts of the liquid portion of coagulated whole blood from eight or more persons who are free from any disease transmissible by transfusion. (05 Mar 2000) |
| normal human serum albumin | A sterile preparation of serum albumin obtained by fractionating blood plasma proteins from healthy persons; used as a transfusion material and to treat oedema due to hypoproteinaemia. Synonym: dried human albumin. (05 Mar 2000) |
| human plasma protein fraction | A sterile solution of selected proteins derived from the blood plasma of adult human donors, containing 4.5 to 5.5 g of protein per 100 ml, of which 83 to 90% is albumin and the remainder is alpha-and beta-globulins; used as a blood volume supporter. (05 Mar 2000) |
| dried human plasma protein fraction | Freeze-dried human plasma protein fraction. (05 Mar 2000) |

| range, normal | Normal results can fall outside the normal range. By convention, the normal range is set to cover ninety-five percent (95%) of values from a normal population. Five percent (5%) of normal results therefore fall outside the normal range. (12 Dec 1998) |
| normal | <microscopy> An imaginary line forming a right angle with the tangent to a curved surface at a particular point. It is used as a basis for determining angles of incidence, reflection, and refraction. (05 Aug 1998) |
| normal animal | In research, an experimental animal that has neither suffered an attack of a particular disease nor received an injection of a specific microorganism or its toxin. (05 Mar 2000) |
| normal antibody | Antibody demonstrable in the serum or plasma of various persons or animals not known to have been stimulated by specific antigen, either artificially or as the result of naturally occurring contact. Synonym: natural antibody. (05 Mar 2000) |
