| 설명 | 척추 중에서 목부분을 이루는 척추뼈를 이르는 말이다. 척주의 시작인 첫번째 척추뼈에서부터 7번째 척추뼈까지를 말한다. 목있는 폴립(sessile polyp) 기시부가 넓은 모양을 가지고 내강내로 돌출되어 나온 폴립을 말한다. 이에 비해 좁은 줄기에 의해 지탱되는 폴립을 목있는 폴립이라 한다. |

| 설명 | 자궁목이란 자궁이 질과 연결된 부위로 자궁의 입구에 해당하는 부위이다. 이곳은 상피로 둘러쌓여 있다. 상피란 신체의 내부나 외부를 쌓고 있는 조직을 이르는 말로, 이 상피의 아래에는 대개 상피를 지지하고 있는 조직이 존재한다. 그리고 이 지지조직과 상피의 사이에는 기저막이라는 막이 있어서 상피와 지지조직을 구분한다. 자궁경부이형성이란 여러 가지 자극에 의해서 암성변화를 한 자궁상피의 세포가 자궁상피의 일부가 차지하고 있는 경우를 이르는 말이다. 즉 상피의 일부가 암성변화를 한 세포가 메우고 있는 것을 이른다. 이것 자체가 암은 아니지만 전암성 병변이며 이것이 계속 진 행이 되어 자궁상피의 전층을 암세포가 채우게 되면 이것을 상피내암종이라고 부르고 만약 더 진행이 되어서 암세포가 기저막을 뚫고 상피밑의 지지 조직을 침범한다면 이것을 침윤암이라고 부른다.  |

| 설명 | 줄여서 팝도말검사(Pap smear)이라고 부른다. 여성의 자궁목암의 발생을 미리 알아보기 위해 시행하는 검사법으로 미국에서는 이 방법으로 현재 자궁목암발생에 의한 사망률을 현저히 낮추고 있다. 방법은 산부인과에서 시행하며, 여성의 자궁목에서 세포를 가져다가 도말하여 현미경으로 검사한다. 요즈음에 와서는 자궁목뿐 아니라 호흡기나 비뇨기 등 분비물을 도말하여 파파니콜로 염색을 하여 검사하는 것도 여기에 포함된다. (그림 P-3). |
