| 설명 | 대뇌속의 제3뇌실 주위에 존재하는 큰 달걀 모양의 신경세포체로 이루어진 회색질이다. 후각을 제외한 모든 감각 즉 체성감각, 시각, 청각, 미각 등이 대뇌피질에 도달하기전 거쳐가는 중간 경유지이다. 따라서 이 곳이 파괴시 이상의 감각이 전해지지 않는다. |

| 설명 | 이 자세는 여러 가지 경우에 사용되어 지는데, 예를 들어 한쪽 폐에 물이 찬 경우에 그냥 보통 서서 찍는 X-선 사진 기술로는 잘 나오지 않는 경우가 많다. 이럴 때, 옆으로 누운 자세로 한쪽으로 물이 고이도록 한 상태에서 촬영을 할 경우엔 이 병적인 상태를 명확히 볼 수 있다. 때로는 만삭이 된 임산부가 바로 누워 있을 경우 태아에 의해 혈관이 눌려 실신하는 경우가 있는 데 이럴 경우에도 이 “옆으로 눕는 자세”를 하면 금방 회복될 수 있다. |

| lateral nucleus of thalamus | The largest of the major subdivisions of the thalamus; the composite lateral nucleus includes, from before backward, the nucleus lateralis anterior or dorsalis, nucleus lateralis intermedius, nucleus lateralis posterior, and pulvinar; together, these cell groups form most of the free dorsal surface of the posterior half of the thalamus and project to a very large region of parietal, occipitoparietal, and temporal cortex; its afferent connections are largely obscure, but the nucleus lateralis posterior and the pulvinar receive a projection from the superior colliculus.
