| canthus | The angle of the eye. Origin: G. Kanthos, corner of the eye (05 Mar 2000) |
|---|---|
| medial canthus | The angle formed by the union of the upper and lower eyelids medially. Synonym: angulus oculi medialis, angulus oculi nasalis, internal canthus, medial canthus. (05 Mar 2000) |
| situs inversus | <disease> Condition in which the normal asymmetry of the body (in respect of circulatory system and intestinal coiling) is reversed. Interesting because it occurs in approximately 50% of patients with immotile cilia syndrome, a disorder of ciliary dynein. (10 Oct 1997) |
| situs inversus totalis | A condition in which there is complete transposition (right to left reversal) of the thoracic and abdominal organs. The heart is not in its usual position in the left chest but is on the right. Specifically related to the heart, this is referred to as dextrocardia (literally, right-hearted). And the stomach, which is normally in the left upper abdomen, is on the right. In patients with situs inversus totalis, all of the chest and abdominal organs are reversed and appear in mirror image when examined or visualised by tests such as X-ray filming. Situs inversus totalis has been estimated to occur once in about 6-8,000 births. Situs inversus occurs in a rare abnormal condition that is present at birth (congenital) called kartagener's syndrome. (12 Dec 1998) |
| situs inversus viscerum | A transposition of the viscera, e.g., the liver developing on the left side or the heart on the right. Synonym: visceral inversion. (05 Mar 2000) |
| dextrocardia with situs inversus | Displacement of the heart to the right side of the chest with mirror transposition of the cardiac chambers together with transposition of the abdominal viscera. Synonym: type 1 dextrocardia. (05 Mar 2000) |
| internal canthus | The angle formed by the union of the upper and lower eyelids medially. Synonym: angulus oculi medialis, angulus oculi nasalis, internal canthus, medial canthus. (05 Mar 2000) |
| epicanthus inversus | A crescentic upward fold of skin from the lower eyelid at the inner canthus; frequent in congenital blepharoptosis. (05 Mar 2000) |
| external canthus | The angle formed by the junction of the lateral parts of the upper and lower eyelids. Synonym: angulus oculi lateralis, angulus oculi temporalis, external canthus, lateral canthus. (05 Mar 2000) |
| lateral canthus | The angle formed by the junction of the lateral parts of the upper and lower eyelids. Synonym: angulus oculi lateralis, angulus oculi temporalis, external canthus, lateral canthus. (05 Mar 2000) |
