| TM | Transverse myelitis |
| bulbar myelitis | Inflammation of the medulla oblongata. (05 Mar 2000) |
|---|
| acute bulbar poliomyelitis | Poliomyelitis virus infection affecting nerve cells in the medulla oblongata and producing paralysis of the lower motor cranial nerves. (05 Mar 2000) |
|---|---|
| acute necrotizing myelitis | A spinal cord disorder, probably a demyelinating disease, which affects persons of all ages and either sex. Presents with abrupt or more gradual onset with sensory abnormalities and upper motor neuron weakness; soon a reflexic flaccid motor paralysis and sphincter paralysis supervenes, which is permanent. In some, but not all cases, bilateral or unilateral optic neuritis is associated. In the cerebrospinal fluid, the protein is increased, and mononuclear cells are present. After autopsy, the lesion has been identified as a necrotizing haemorrhagic leukomyelitis. (05 Mar 2000) |
| acute transverse myelitis | Acute inflammation and softening of the spinal cord; involves the entire thickness of the spinal cord but of limited longitudinal extent; multiple aetiologies. (05 Mar 2000) |
| ascending myelitis | Progressive inflammation involving successively higher areas of the spinal cord. (05 Mar 2000) |
| bulbar | <anatomy> Pertaining to a bulb, pertaining to or involving the medulla oblongata, as in bulbar palsy. (18 Nov 1997) |
| bulbar apoplexy | Apoplexy due to vascular lesion in the brainstem. (05 Mar 2000) |
| bulbar conjunctiva | The part of the conjunctiva covering the anterior surface of the sclera and the surface epithelium of the cornea. Synonym: tunica conjunctiva bulbi, conjunctival layer of bulb. (05 Mar 2000) |
| bulbar palsy | Progressive weakness and atrophy of the muscles of the tongue, lips, palate, pharynx, and larynx, usually occurring in later life; most often caused by motor neuron disease. Synonym: bulbar palsy, bulbar paralysis, Duchenne's disease, Erb disease, glossolabiolaryngeal paralysis, glossolabiopharyngeal paralysis. (05 Mar 2000) |
| bulbar paralysis | Progressive weakness and atrophy of the muscles of the tongue, lips, palate, pharynx, and larynx, usually occurring in later life; most often caused by motor neuron disease. Synonym: bulbar palsy, bulbar paralysis, Duchenne's disease, Erb disease, glossolabiolaryngeal paralysis, glossolabiopharyngeal paralysis. (05 Mar 2000) |
| bulbar pulse | A jugular pulse supposed to indicate tricuspid insufficiency. (05 Mar 2000) |
| bulbar ridge | One of two spiral subendocardial thickenings in the embryonic bulbus cordis; when they fuse, they divide the bulbus into the aorta and pulmonary artery. (05 Mar 2000) |
| bulbar septum | An obsolete term for spiral septum. (05 Mar 2000) |
| radiation myelitis | Damage to the spinal cord from exposure to X-rays or other high energy radiation; usually radiation myelitis. Synonym: radiation myelitis. (05 Mar 2000) |
| paralysis, bulbar | A paralysis resulting from changes in the motor centres of the medulla oblongata. It is chronic, usually fatal, and most commonly occurring in persons over 50 years old. (12 Dec 1998) |
| concussion myelitis | Traumatic myelopathy. (05 Mar 2000) |
