| 설명 | 뇌와 척수를 동시에 침범하는 염증. 주로 미국에서 유행한 말의 바이러스전염병으로 동부형(사망률 90%)과 서부형(사망률 30%)이 있다. 1930년 이후에는 사람에게도 유행했다. 뇌척수염은 말이집탈락병이다. 특히 광견병 예방주사를 맞은 후 발병하는 후접종뇌척수염은 광견병뿐 아니라 마마-홍역-백일해 예방접종 후에도 올 수 있으며, 또 예방접종이 아니라 홍역-볼거리-수두-마마를 앓고 난 후에도 생길 수 있다. 바이러스성 전염병을 앓은 2~4일 안에 혹은 예방주사를 맞은 후 10~13일에 두통-목경직 등으로 시작해 마비와 혼수가 오고, 30~50%의 치사율을 가진다. 아급성경화성범뇌척수염은 어린이에게 주로 침범하며 성격이 달라지거나 비정상적인 근육활동을 보인다. 병리학적으로는 뇌나 척수 속에서 신경세포가 모인 부분과 백색질을 전부 침범하는 광범한 뇌염으로 백색질의 병터가 더 현저할 뿐 아니라 말이집의 파괴가 상당히 심하다. 혈관주위 염증세포가 점차 침입해서 퍼지는 현상도 현저하다. |

| autoimmune thrombocytopenia purpura | <haematology> A rare autoimmune disorder characterised by an acute shortage of platelets with resultant bruising and spontaneous bleeding. The platelet count becomes exceedingly low and spontaneous bleeding from the gums, gastrointestinal tract and nose can be seen. Physical examination may demonstrate enlargement of the spleen. A typical rash occurs to do microscopic haemorrhage of small blood vessels in the skin. Platelet counts under 10,000 can lead to spontaneous haemorrhage into the brain causing death. Treatment with corticosteroids is generally effective. Surgical removal of the spleen (splenectomy) is reserved for some patients. Anti-platelet antibodies are detectable in some cases.
