| augmented histamine test | A test for maximal production of gastric acidity or anacidity; after preliminary administration of an antihistamine, histamine acid phosphate is injected subcutaneously in a dose of 0.04 mg/kg of body weight, followed by analysis of gastric contents. Synonym: augmented histamine test. (05 Mar 2000) |

| augmented lead | Electrocardiogram recorded between one limb and two other limbs. The augmented lead are designated aVF, aVL, and aVR for recordings made between the foot (left), left arm, and right arm, respectively, and the other two limbs. (05 Mar 2000) |
| augmented histamine t. |
(of gastric function): after a 12-hour fast, the residual gastric contents are aspirated. Basal gastric secretion is then collected for 1 hour in divided 15-minute aliquots. Thirty minutes before completion of collection, a suitable dose of antihistamine is given intramuscularly. At conclusion of basal secretion collection, histamine acid phosphate (0.04 mg per kg of body weight) is given subcutaneously, and gastric contents collected in 15-minute aliquots for 1 hour. Volume, pH, and titratable acidity are measured for each aliquot. When Histalog (1.7 mg per kg of body weight) is used in place of histamine, the antihistamine injection is omitted and 8 (rather than 4) 15-minute aliquots are taken after its injection.

| augmented unipolar limb l. |
a unipolar limb lead that has been modified by disconnecting the input of the limb to the central terminal, increasing the voltage output; the three standard leads are designated aVF, aVL, and aVR.
