| 설명 | 몸속에 존재하는 자그마한 뼈를 말한다. 대표적인 경우가 중이에 존재하는 망치뼈(malleus), 모루뼈(incus), 등자뼈(stapes)이다. 이들은 고막에 의해 전해진 음을 망치뼈에서 모루뼈로 그리고 다시 등자뼈를 거쳐 달팽이관으로 전하면서, 지렛대원리를 통해 전해진 음의 약 17배를 증가시키는 역할을 한다. |

| 설명 | 코 안과 가운데 귀를 연결하는 관. 귀는 크게 바깥귀, 가운데귀, 속귀의 3부분으로 나누는데 바깥귀라고 하는 것은 소리를 고막까지 전달하는 바깥귓길 부분을 말한다. 그리고 가운데귀란 고막에서 속귀 사이의 공간으로, 여기에는 소리를 느끼는 달팽이까지 고막의 진동을 전달해 주는 작은 뼈인 3개의 귓속뼈가 있다. 속귀란 소리를 직접 느끼는 기관인 달팽이, 평형감각을 담당하는 반고리관, 구형낭(saccule), 타원낭(utricle)이 있는 곳을 말한다. 이 기관의 기능은 가운데귀와 외계의 압력 차이를 없애주는 역할을 한다. 그러나 중이염(중이에 염증이 생기는 것)의 통로로 이용될 수가 있다. |
