| 설명 | 유럽 원산으로, 현삼과에 속하는 여러해살이풀. 주성분은 digitoxin, purpurea glycoside A, purpurea glycoside B 등이다. 직접 심근에 작용하여 수축 및 확장을 강화함과 동시에 심장동맥이나 콩팥동맥을 확장하여 혈류를 원할하게 한다. |

| 설명 | 매독 때문에 일어나는 만성 중추신경병. 중추신경계쪽의 Treponema pallidum 감염에 기인되고, 척수 뒤기둥 및 감각신경간이 황폐되고 변성되는 것이다. 이 병은 매독 제3기(후기) 단계이고, 벼락치는 것 같은 격통의 발작, 협조운동불능, 감각장애, 힘줄반사소실, 위, 후두 등 각종 기관의 기능장애 발작이 뚜렷한 증상이다. 또한 각종(특히 뼈나 관절) 영양장애, 실금 혹은 오줌체류, 성기능저하등이 나타난다. 이 병의 경과는 보통 완만하나, 진행성이며 진행을 정지시킬 수도 있으나 완전한 치유는 극히 드물며, 대부분은 중년 이전에 발생되고, 남성에 많다. |
