| annular part of fibrous digital sheath | One of the two circular fibrous bands of the fibrous sheaths of the fingers and toes attached to the shaft of the proximal and middle phalanges. Synonym: pars annularis vaginae fibrosae, annular pulley, annulus of fibrous sheath, ligamentum annulare digitorum. (05 Mar 2000) |
|---|---|
| fibrous digital sheaths of foot | Fibrous sheaths of the toes, the tubular fibrous layer enclosing the synovial sheath and the tendons of the long and short flexors of the toes and the flexor hallucis longus in the digits; they are composed of annular and cruciform parts. Synonym: vaginae fibrosae digitorum pedis. (05 Mar 2000) |
| fibrous digital sheaths of hand | Fibrous sheaths of the digits of the hand, the tubular fibrous layers that enclose the synovial sheaths and the superficial and deep flexor tendons and the tendon of the flexor pollicis longus in their passage along their respective digits; they are composed of annular and cruciform parts. Synonym: vaginae fibrosae digitorum manus. (05 Mar 2000) |
| fibrous sheaths | See: fibrous tendon sheath, fibrous digital sheaths of hand, fibrous digital sheaths of foot. (05 Mar 2000) |
| cruciform part of fibrous digital sheath | The fibres of the fibrous sheath of the fingers and toes which form X-shaped patterns over the region of the interphalangeal joints. Synonym: pars cruciformis vaginae fibrosae, crucial ligament, cruciform part of fibrous sheath, cruciform pulley, ligamenta cruciata digitorum. (05 Mar 2000) |
| cruciform part of fibrous sheath | The fibres of the fibrous sheath of the fingers and toes which form X-shaped patterns over the region of the interphalangeal joints. Synonym: pars cruciformis vaginae fibrosae, crucial ligament, cruciform part of fibrous sheath, cruciform pulley, ligamenta cruciata digitorum. (05 Mar 2000) |
| vascular sheaths | Fibrous envelopes ensheathing the arteries with their accompanying veins and sometimes nerves as well. Synonym: sheaths of vessels, vaginae vasorum. (05 Mar 2000) |
| sheaths of vessels | Fibrous envelopes ensheathing the arteries with their accompanying veins and sometimes nerves as well. Synonym: sheaths of vessels, vaginae vasorum. (05 Mar 2000) |
| synovial sheaths of digits of foot | Similar in structure to the corresponding sheaths of the hand. Synonym: vaginae synoviales digitorum pedis. (05 Mar 2000) |
| synovial sheaths of digits of hand | The synovial sheaths that enclose the flexor tendons of the fingers and line the inside of the fibrous tendon sheaths. Synonym: vaginae synoviales digitorum manus. (05 Mar 2000) |
| fascial sheaths of extraocular muscles | Muscular fascia; the part of the orbital fascia that envelops the extraocular muscles; it is thin posteriorly but becomes thicker where it is continuous with the bulbar sheath; the fascial sheaths of the four rectus muscles are connected by an intermuscular membrane. Synonym: fascia muscularis musculorum bulbi, fascia of extraocular muscles, muscular fascia of extraocular muscle. (05 Mar 2000) |
| palmar surface of fingers | The flat of the fingers; the flexor or anterior surface of the fingers. Synonym: facies digitalis ventralis, facies digitalis palmaris, ventral surface of digit. (05 Mar 2000) |
| clubbed fingers | <clinical sign> A condition which describes the broadening or thickening of the tips of the fingers (and toes) with increased lengthwise curvature of the nail and a decrease in the angle normally seen between the cuticle and the fingernail. Often this finding on physical examination can be quite subtle and easily overlooked. Clubbing may be seen in a wide variety of conditions - most of which result in a decrease in blood oxygen. Examples include: tetralogy of Fallot, transposition of the great vessels, atrial myxomas, cystic fibrosis, emphysema, lung cancer, tuberculosis, cystic fibrosis, bronchiectasis, Hodgkin's disease, cirrhosis, chronic active hepatitis and Crohn's disease. This finding will generally provoke a more detailed patient evaluation. (11 Nov 1997) |
| waxy fingers | Impaired digital circulation, possibly a mild form of Raynaud's disease, marked by a purplish or waxy white colour of the fingers, with subnormal local temperature and paresthesia. Synonym: dead fingers, waxy fingers. Origin: acro-+ G. Asphyxia, stoppage of the pulse (05 Mar 2000) |
| webbed fingers | Two or more finger's united and enclosed in a common sheath of skin. (05 Mar 2000) |
