| uveitis | <pathology> An inflammation of part or all of the uvea, the middle (vascular) tunic of the eye and commonly involving the other tunics (the sclera and cornea and the retina). (18 Nov 1997) |
|---|---|
| uveitis, anterior | Inflammation of the anterior uvea comprising the iris, angle structures, and the ciliary body. Manifestations of this disorder include ciliary injection, exudation into the anterior chamber, iris changes, and adhesions between the iris and lens (posterior synechiae). Intraocular pressure may be increased or reduced. (12 Dec 1998) |
| uveitis, intermediate | Inflammation of the pars plana, ciliary body, and adjacent structures. (12 Dec 1998) |
| uveitis, posterior | Inflammation of the choroid as well as the retina and vitreous body. Some form of visual disturbance is usually present. The most important characteristics of posterior uveitis are vitreous opacities, choroiditis, and chorioretinitis. (12 Dec 1998) |
| uveitis, suppurative | Intraocular infection caused mainly by pus-producing bacteria and rarely by fungi. The infection may be caused by an injury or surgical wound (exogenous) or by endogenous septic emboli in such diseases as bacterial endocarditis or meningococcaemia. (12 Dec 1998) |
| anterior uveitis | Inflammation involving the ciliary body and iris. (05 Mar 2000) |
|---|---|
| phacoanaphylactic uveitis | Intraocular inflammation occurring after extracapsular cataract extraction;probably an immune reaction to the patient's liberated lenticular proteins. Synonym: lens-induced uveitis. (05 Mar 2000) |
| phacogenic uveitis | Uveitis secondary to hypermature cataract. (05 Mar 2000) |
| posterior uveitis | <pathology> Inflammation of the choroid, a membrane or coat of the eyeball. (27 Sep 1997) |
| heterochromic uveitis | Anterior uveitis and depigmentation of the iris. Synonym: Fuchs' uveitis. (05 Mar 2000) |
| sympathetic uveitis | A bilateral inflammation of the uveal tract caused by a perforating wound of one eye that injures the uvea. (05 Mar 2000) |
| intermediate uveitis | A uveitis that is neither anterior nor posterior but tends to involve the pars plana and the ciliary body. (05 Mar 2000) |
| Forster's uveitis | Syphilitic inflammation, with diffuse nodules involving the choroid and retinal vasculitis. (05 Mar 2000) |
| Fuchs' uveitis | Anterior uveitis and depigmentation of the iris. Synonym: Fuchs' uveitis. (05 Mar 2000) |
| lens-induced uveitis | Intraocular inflammation occurring after extracapsular cataract extraction;probably an immune reaction to the patient's liberated lenticular proteins. Synonym: lens-induced uveitis. (05 Mar 2000) |

| uveitis |
This indicates inflammation of the uveal tract. It is divided into anterior, intermediate and posterior according to which part of the eye is involved. There are two main forms: Granulomatous and non-granulomatous uveitis. The granulomatous form is has characteristic appearances on slit-lamp examination and is associated with sarcoidosis, syphilis and tuberculosis among other conditions.

| uveitis |
Inflammation of the uvea. In most cases, the cause is unknown, but infectious or immunological systemic disorders can cause uveitis. Symptoms vary depending on where in the uvea the inflammation occurs; they include mild to strong eye pain, redness, light sensitivity, blurred vision and floaters. You may also experience tearing, a pupil that responds poorly to light or squinting. Specific types of uveitis include iritis, iridocyclitis, cyclitis, pars planitis and choroiditis.
