| 설명 | 집단이나 지역사회의 건강을 연구하는 예방의학. 18세기 중엽부터 산업혁명에 의해 인구가 도시로 집중되고 생활환경이 열악화되어 콜레라나 결핵 등이 유행했기 때문에 그 대책으로 탄생하게 되었다. 우리 나라에서는 광복 후부터 보건소의 설치나 대학의 강좌 신설 등 근대적인 공동보건행정이 이루어지게 되었다. 이 때까지는 일제 식민당국의 경찰력에 의한 명령과 단속으로 시종 해왔다. 현재도 우리나라의 도시 환경 정비가 유럽 여러 나라나 미국에 비해 뒤진 것은 이러한 영향 때문이다. 최근에는 공중보건의 주된 목적이 전염병 대책에서 암-뇌중풍-심장병-당뇨병 등 생활습관병 대책으로 옮겨지고 있다. |

| 설명 | 길게 늘어서 있는 DNA사슬의 유전정보가 각각의 아미노산에 대응하여 단백질의 합성에 사용될 수 있게 읽혀지는 방법. DNA 분자는 각각의 Deoxyribonucleotide가 연결되어서 이루는 구조이다. 이Deoxyribonucleolide는 당, 인산, 그리고 염기로 이루어져 있다. 당과 인산은 각각의 Deoxyribonucleotide가 연결되게 유지해주는 역할을 하고 염기가 유전정보를 가지고 있으며 이 염기의 배열이 유전정보 즉 단백질의 합성에 필요한 정보를 가지고 있다. DNA를 이루는 염기는 4개로 아데닌(adenine), 구아닌(guanine), 티민(thymine), 시토신(cytosine)의 4가지이다. 4개의 염기가 섞여있는 배열을 한 개의 단백질로 합성을 하기 위해서는 이 배열을 해독하는 방법이 있어야 한다. 즉 그 방법은 3개의 염기의 배열을 하나의 아미노산에 대응시켜서 각 아미노산의 서열을 정하고 단백질을 만드는 것이다. 예를 들면 cytosine-cytosine-cytosine이라는 배열은 proline이라는 단백질을 의미하는 것으로 읽혀지게 된다. 이렇게 아무런 규칙이 없는 것 같은 염기서열을 하나의 아미노산과 대응시켜서 읽는 방법이 유전부호이다. |

| 설명 | 자궁이란 태아가 수태되어서 분만전까지 발육하고 성장하는 공간이다. 자궁속에 병변이 있어 임신이 계속될 수 없거나 아니면 다른 이유로 임신되어 있는 태아를 제거하고자 할 경우에 사용되는 방법이다. 여기서 긁어내기 위하여는 우선 자궁의 입구에 해당하는 자궁목을 확장시켜야 한다. 여기에는 급속히 확장을 시도하는 법과 서서히 확장을 시도하는 2가지 방법이 있다. 자궁목을 급속히 확장할 때는 헤가르 목관확장기(Hegar's dilatator)를 사용한다. 이것은 작은 금속막대로 작은 크기부터 큰 크기까지 다양한 크기가 있어서 우선 작은 막대로 시작하여 점점 큰 크기의 막대를 자궁목에 넣어서 자궁목을 확장시킨다. 서서히 확장시킬 때는 Laminaria tent를 목관에 삽입하는 방법을 사용한다. Laminaria tent란 해초로 만든 작은 막대로 수분을 흡수하면 점점 늘어나는 성질이 있다. 이것을 자궁의 목에 넣으면 이것이 수분을 흡수하여 늘어나므로 천천히 자궁의 목이 늘어난다. 자궁목이 충분히 늘어나면 그 속으로 끝이 숟가락처럼 생긴 기구를 넣어서 자궁속의 병변이나 임신된 태아를 긁어내는데 여기에 사용되는 숟가락처럼 생긴 기구를 큐렛이라고 한다. 초기 임신중절 즉 유산과 같은 임신과 관련된 경우뿐만 아니라, 비임신 자궁의 자궁내막조직의 채취 및 제거를 위해서도 행해지는 수기이다. 이는 원칙적으로 마취하에 실시되는 것으로 자궁목관을 확장하고 기구로 자궁 내용물을 제거하고 큐렛으로 자궁내벽을 깨끗이 한다. 자궁천공이나 자궁목의 파열 등의 위험이 따르며, 수술후 감염 또는 출혈 등에 대한 주의가 필요하다. |
