| 설명 | 세균의 종류 및 형태와 성질, 분포, 변이 따위를 연구하는 학문. 현미경의 발달과 함께 시작되었다. 과거에는 주로 분류-형태와 발육 등의 성질, 특히 병원성 등에 많은 관심을 가졌으나 최근에는 생화학-유전학-면역학 등과 연관지어 생명과학의 기초학문으로 더욱 중요시 되고 있다. 의학-수의학-농학-공학 등 여러 분야의 학문에 직접 또는 실용적으로 응용하는 응용세균학도 유전자공학적인 새로운 방법론의 발전에 힘입어 크게 인류복지를 위하여 공헌하고 있다. |
