| 설명 | 스스로 자신의 목숨을 끊음. 즉, 행위자가 자신의 죽음을 초래할 의도를 가지고 자신의 생명을 끊는 행위. 자살의 영어대응어인 suicide의 어원은 라틴어의 sui(자기 자신을)와 caedo(죽이다)의 두 낱말의 합성어이다. 여기서 알 수 있듯이, 자살이란 그 원인이 개인적이든 사회적이든, 당사자가 자유의사에 의하여 자신의 목숨을 끊는 행위를 말한다. 이 정의는 일견 명백하기는 하나 실제로는 여러 문제가 있다. 자살의 원인은 복잡하고 파악하기 어려운데, 통계에 의하면 신경쇠약-실연-병고-생활고-가정불화-장래에 대한 고민-사업실패-염세 등 여러 가지가 있으며, 그 중에서도 염세-병고-신경쇠약-실연-가정불화가 두드러지게 많다. 이것을 남녀별로 보면 남자에게는 신경쇠약과 병고가 많고, 여자에게는 가정불화와 실연이 많다. 그리고 연령별로는 청소년에서는 실연과 염세가 많고, 노인에서는 병고가 특징적으로 많다. 가정불화는 20~30대에 많다. |

| cerebrovascular accident prevention | In many cases, a person may have a transient ischemic attack (TIA).
