| 설명 | 액체의 자유표면에서 표면을 작게하려고 작용하는 장력. 비누방울이나 액체 속의 기포-물방울 등이 구상이 되는 것은 이 힘이 액면에 작용하기 때문이며, 용기의 가장자리에 액체가 넘쳐 올라간 모양이 되어 쏟아지지 않는 것도 액체 표면에 장력이 작용하기 때문이다. 수면에 떨어뜨린 기름방울이 금방 퍼지는 것은 물의 표면장력이 기름의 표면장력보다 크고, 기름층이 물의 표면장력에 의해 잡아 늘여지기 때문이다. |

| 설명 | 흉막강 안에 공기나 가스가 들어차 흉벽과 허파쪽의 두 가슴막면이 서로 떨어져 있는 상태. 외상성공기가슴증과 자연공기가슴증으로 분류되며 자연공기가슴증의 원인은 과격한 운동, 지나친 늘림, 기침, 구토 등으로 인한 기종성 낭의 파열 등이며 폐렴, 폐섬유증, 폐공기증, 폐결핵 등 폐질환의 기왕력이 있는 환자에게 많다. 공기가슴증이 갑자기 생기면 심한 통증과 숨이 차고 재채기-구토-기침-호흡곤란을 일으키는 예가 있다. 돌발적인 호흡곤란, 흉부통증, 흉부압박감, 기침(가래가 수반되지 않는) 등이지만 전혀 자각증상이 없이 흉부X선 사진에서 우연히 발견되는 수도 있다. |
