| 설명 | 원자번호 11의 금속원자. 세포 외액의 가장 흔한 양이온으로서 세포 외액의 삼투압결정에 가장 중요한 역할을 함. 알도스테론(aldosterone: 콩팥위에 있는 부신에서 분비한다. 혈액내의 삼투압유지에 중요한 작용을 한다)에 의해 콩팥에서 재흡수가 촉진되며 체내 수분량을 결정하는 가장 중요한 인자. 신경세포 등의 흥분성 세포의 흥분시 세포내로 유입되어 흥분을 유발하는 중요한 기능도 가진다. |

| 설명 | 혈액이나 소변에서 실시하는 검사항목. pH검사는 인체의 체액의 산성, 알칼리성을 알아보는 중요한 검사이다. 인체는 약알칼리성에 속하나, 이보다 pH의 증가나 감소가 나타날 경우, 생명에 위험이 발생한다. 인체내에는 이런 산도의 증감을 막기위해, 이른바 완충제들이 많이 존재하며, 특히 허파와 콩팥이 완충작용을 수행하는 주요기관이다. 콩팥은 산도가 높을 경우, 소변에서 산도를 증가시켜 배출함으로써 혈액내의 알칼리성 농도가 증가하도록 한다. 또한 허파에서도, 혈액내에 산도가 증가시 호흡을 증가함으로써 밖으로 산의 배출을 증가시킨다. 이런 허파와 콩팥의 균형은 아주 적절히 이루어지고 있으며, 어느 한 기관의 이상이 발생하면, 이런 균형은 깨어지기 쉽다. |

| sodium hydrogen carbonate | <chemical> Carbonic acid monosodium salt (CHNaO3). A white, crystalline powder that is used as an electrolyte replenisher and systemic alkaliser.
