excessive levels of sitosterols in the blood, especially β-sitosterol, absorbed from dietary vegetables due to an unknown intestinal defect. A rare form is associated with xanthomatosis, with tuberous and tendon xanthomas appearing in childhood. Written also β-sitosterolemia.
