| 설명 | 수면제의 일종. 과잉 복용시 호흡을 억제시켜 생명에 지장을 가져온다. 장기간 복용시 내성이 증가하기도 함. 수면제외에 전신마취시에, 호흡마취 이전에 빠른 마취유도와 환자의 마취에 따른 고통을 감소하기 위한 정맥마취제로 이용한다. 또한, 이 약은 독성작용빈도가 적고, 값이 싸므로 장기간의 치료를 필요로 하는 간질치료제로도 널리 이용된다. |

| phenobarbital | <chemical> A barbiturate used as a sedative and an anticonvulsant. It was used as an anti-anxiety agent but has been supplanted by benzodiazepines for that purpose. It may also be useful in the treatment of neonatal hyperbilirubinaemia and in the symptomatic treatment of opiate withdrawal in mothers and infants.
