A device usually consisting of a plastic chamber that attaches to a metered dose inhaler on one end, with a mouthpiece on the other end. A spacer is intended to help medicine from a metered dose inhaler get into the lungs. Without a spacer, much of the medicine in an inhaler "puff" gets deposited on the tongue or in the back of the throat.
