|---|---|
| suspended solids | Waste particles suspended in water. Suspended solids can harbor harmful microorganisms and toxic chemicals. Suspended solids cloud the water and make disinfection more difficult and costly. (05 Dec 1998) |
| total dissolved solids | A measure of inorganic and organic materials dissolved in water (passing through a 0.45 micron filter), expressed as mg/l FR. Sometimes considered similar to conductivity as an indicator of potential production in habitat quality indices. (09 Oct 1997) |
| total suspended solids | The organic and inorganic material left on a standard glass fibre filter (0.45 micron) after a water sample is filtered through it. (09 Oct 1997) |

Ipecac syrup is used widely as an emetic acting both locally on the gastric mucosa and centrally on the chemoreceptor trigger zone. It may also be used as an expectorant. Pharmacological action: emetics, expectorants. Chemical name: Ipecac (12 Dec 1998) |
| rice | <botany> A well-known cereal grass (Oryza sativa) and its seed. This plant is extensively cultivated in warm climates, and the grain forms a large portion of the food of the inhabitants.
