| 설명 | 심장의 박동으로 심장에서 나오는 피가 얇은 피부에 분포되어 있는 동맥의 벽에 닿아서 생기는 주기적인 파동. 맥막의 빠르기나 강하고 약함 따위로 심장의 상태를 알 수 있다. 맥박수, 긴장, 속도, 세기(맥압), 동맥벽의 경도, 좌우차, 상하지의 차, 호흡과의 관련성 등이 인정된다. 진찰에서는 일반적으로 노동맥을 이용한다. 측정자는 손가락을 노동맥 위에 평행으로 놓고 세 개의 손가락으로 균등하게 눌러 맥박수와 고르기를, 이어서 환자의 심장측을 향하고 있는 두 개의 손가락과, 환자의 손바닥 쪽으로 향하고 있는 한 개의 손가락으로 박동이 느껴지지 않을 때까지 가압하여, 맥압의 크기를 진단한다. |

| 설명 | 수축기 혈압과 확장기 혈압의 차이. mmHg로 표시한다. 심장의 수축력, 동맥 내 혈류량, 동맥벽의 긴장도에 영향을 받는다. 정상치는 수축기 혈압의 1/3, 또는 확장기 혈압의 1/2이다. 60mmHg이상을 대맥이라고 하며, 대동맥판막 폐쇄부족증, 갑상샘항진증, 동맥경화증, 혈압이 상승할 때 심장비대, 고열 등에서 볼 수 있다. 20mmHg 이하를 소맥이라고 하며, 급성 심근경색에 의한 좌심실 수축력 저하, 대동맥판막 협착등에서 볼 수 있다. 한편 맥압의 1/3에 확장기 혈압을 더한 것을 평균혈압이라고 한다. |

| 설명 | 고혈압의 치료에 사용하며 높은 혈압을 낮추는 약물을 말한다. 고혈압약에는 혈관평활근에 직접 작용하여 이완시키는 혈관확장제(히드라라진), 교감신경의 활동을 어디선가 차단하는 약물(레세르핀, 메틸도파, 프로프라노롤), 이뇨제(프로세미드, 에타크린산)이 사용된다. |

| 설명 | 말라리아 치료에 쓰는 약. 키니네, 클로로퀸, 프리마퀸 따위가 있다. 말라리아 원충의 발육주기에 대응해서 약물이 있으나 대부분은 병용요법에 따라서 말라리아 치료를 한다. 모기에 의한 포자체감염에 대한 항포자체 약은 독성 등의 문제가 있어서 아직 없다. 적혈구내에서의 환상체, 번식체에만 작용하는 것(항번식체 약은 클로로퀸, 피리메타민, 클로로구아나이드, 키니네)은 적혈구 외의 발육은 억제하지 않으므로 감염을 완전히 저지되지 않는다. 적혈구내외의 원충에 작용해 완전히 감염을 억제하는 것(파마킨, 펜타킨, 프리마킨), 혈중의 생식체를 죽이는 것(대부분의 항말라리아제)은 모기에 의한 타인으로의 전염원은 끊기는데 환자자신의 증상은 변화하지 않는다. |
