| 설명 | 1. 특이한 냄새와 쓴맛을 가진 할로겐 원소의 하나. 금속성의 광택과 특이적 냄새를 갖는 흑회색의 판상, 또는 과립상의 결정으로, 그 용액은 강한 살균력을 갖는 소독제이다. 세균, 진균에 광범위하게 살균작용을 나타내며, 석탄산지수는 약 200으로, 그 작용기전은 세균의 대사계산소의 저해에 의한다고 한다. 본제는 물에 잘 녹지 않으므로 용해보조제로서 요오드화칼륨을 가해 수용성 착화합물을 만든 후, 물이나 에탄올에 녹여 제제로 만든다. 소독, 방부, 국소자극제로 쓰인다. 요오드는 필수영양소이며, 갑상샘콜로이드중에 특히 풍부하게 존재한다. 2. 요오드제. 표준품은 99.8% 이상 100.5% 이하의 요오드를 함유하고 국소살균제로 쓰인다. 요오드화물의 형태로서 요오드는 보통 갑상샘기능 항진증의 치료에 사용된다. |

| povidone-iodine | <chemical> A water soluble complex of iodine with polyvinylpyrrolidone. Applied as an antiseptic in the form of solutions or ointments, it releases iodine. Used in cleansing and disinfecting the skin, preparing the skin preoperatively, and treating infections susceptible to iodine. 1-ethenyl-2-pyrrolidone homopolymer complexed with iodine.
