| 설명 | 1. 특이한 냄새와 쓴맛을 가진 할로겐 원소의 하나. 금속성의 광택과 특이적 냄새를 갖는 흑회색의 판상, 또는 과립상의 결정으로, 그 용액은 강한 살균력을 갖는 소독제이다. 세균, 진균에 광범위하게 살균작용을 나타내며, 석탄산지수는 약 200으로, 그 작용기전은 세균의 대사계산소의 저해에 의한다고 한다. 본제는 물에 잘 녹지 않으므로 용해보조제로서 요오드화칼륨을 가해 수용성 착화합물을 만든 후, 물이나 에탄올에 녹여 제제로 만든다. 소독, 방부, 국소자극제로 쓰인다. 요오드는 필수영양소이며, 갑상샘콜로이드중에 특히 풍부하게 존재한다. 2. 요오드제. 표준품은 99.8% 이상 100.5% 이하의 요오드를 함유하고 국소살균제로 쓰인다. 요오드화물의 형태로서 요오드는 보통 갑상샘기능 항진증의 치료에 사용된다. |

| povidone-iodine | <chemical> A water soluble complex of iodine with polyvinylpyrrolidone. Applied as an antiseptic in the form of solutions or ointments, it releases iodine.
