| Paspalum |
a creeping grass with soft leaves that are palatable to livestock. It spreads by short rootstocks, which makes it tolerant of heavy grazing. It quickly became naturalised on scrub soils receiving over 900mm rainfall, and colonised the moister valley bottoms in drier regions. Paspalum once formed the basis of much dairying development in New South Wales and Queensland.
