| 설명 | 학명은 폐렴사슬알균(Streptococcus pneumoniae)으로 폐렴의 가장 흔한 원인균이다. 미생물학적으로 그람양성균이고, 두꺼운 피막을 가진 쌍알균이다. 주로 나이가 많은 중년에서 불결한 생활을 하거나, 알코올중독 등으로 면역이 떨어져 있으면 발병하는 경향이 높다. 치료는 항생제의 투여이다. 보통 흡입이나 흡인에 의해 폐에 도달한 폐렴사슬알균이 가는 기관지에 달라붙어 번식하면서 염증과정이 시작된다. 한 번의 오한이 있은 후에 고열, 흉통(흉막염), 기침, 호흡곤란과 가래가 전형적인 증상이다. |

| 설명 | 폐포자충에 의해 생기는 폐렴, 폐포자충은 AIDS 등에 감염되어 면역저하된 환자의 허파에서 급속도로 성장하고, 신체의 다른 곳에서도 감염이 일어날 수 있다. HIV 양성환자에서 AIDS 검사의 진단기준으로 사용된다. 정상인에서는 질병을 야기하지 않으나 후천면역결핍증후군 환자나 장기이식 후 면역 억제제를 투여 받고 있는 환자, 영양실조를 가진 어린이들에서 심한 폐렴을 일으킨다. 폐렴은 미만 혹은 반상이며 적색의 경화변화를 보이며 광학현미경 검사시 허파꽈리에 호양성(amphophilic), 거품모양의 무정형물질과 여기에 증식하는 주폐포자충과 세포잔해물이 관찰된다. 은염색으로 포낭이 잘 염색되며, Giemsa 혹은 Diff-Quick 염색으로 영양형과 포낭내체를 쉽게 관찰할 수 있다. 균체는 4~6μm크기의 컵, 보트, 반달 혹은 둥근 형태를 가지고 있다. |
