| 설명 | 덜 익은 양귀비(Papaver somniferum) 열매에 상처를 내어 흘러나온 진을 굳혀 말린 고무 모양의 흑갈색 물질. 모르핀을 비롯하여 30가지 이상의 알칼로이드가 들어 있다. 크게 나누면 모르핀계와 파파페린계의 아편알칼로이드로 나뉘어진다. 주요한 것은 모르핀, 파파페린, 코데인, 노스카핀 등이다. 10%는 모르핀이기 때문에 작용은 모르핀과 동일하다. 진통제-한경련제-마취제-지사제 따위로 쓰이는데, 습관성이 강한 중독을 일으키므로 약용 이외의 사용을 법으로 금하고 있다. 아편은 유럽 각국어인 opium의 한역漢譯이며, 어원은 그리스어 opos(식물즙) 및 opion(양귀비의 즙액)으로 보고 있다. 아편은 생아편-의약용 아편-흡연용 아편으로 나눈다. 생아편은 덜 익은 양귀비 열매에 상처를 내어 유출되는 유액을 채집하여 건조시켜서 덩어리로 만든 것이다. 이것을 가루로 하여 모르핀의 함유량을 10%로 조절한 것을 ‘아편말’이라 하여 의약용 아편으로 쓰고 있다. 아편말은 갈색의 가루이며, 특이한 냄새가 나고 맛은 매우 쓰다. 아편은 주로 인도-터키-유고슬라비아-파키스탄에서 재배-제조되며, 전 세계의 생산량은 약 100만kg이나 된다. |
