| 설명 | 1. 건강의 유지와 증진, 병의 조기 발견이나 예방 따위를 위해서 심신의 상태를 검사하는 일. 2. 의사나 치과의사가 자각적-타각적으로 건강한 사람에 대하여 그 건강 상태를 진찰하는 일. 건강을 유지하기 위해서는 질병의 진단과 치료가 필요하지만, 치료에 있어서도 자각증상이나 타각증상이 있고 나서 손을 쓰다 보면 이미 때가 늦을 경우가 많으므로, 발병 초기에 조기진단을 함으로써 건강생활을 적극적으로 설계하려는 데에 의의가 있는 것이다. 건강진단을 크게 나누면, 개인적 건강유지를 위한 것과, 국민 전체의 건강유지를 위하여 행정적으로 특정한 대상자에게 의무적으로 하는 것이 있는데, 후자의 경우를 ‘정기건강진단’이라고 한다. 근로보건관리규정에는 위생상 유해한 직장의 종업원은 연2회 이상의 건강진단을 필요로 하고 있으며, 그 밖의 직장에서는 연1회 이상으로 규정하고 있다. 학교보건법에서는 매년 학생과 교직원의 신체검사를 하게 되어 있고, 결핵예방법에서는 모든 국민은 연1회 이상 결핵에 관한 건강진단을 받도록 되어 있으며, 모자보건법에서는 임신부와 영유아에 대한 건강진단을 규정하고 있다. 이 밖에 접객업소에서도 전염병-피부병에 관한 건강진단을 받아야 한다는 규정이 업종별로 정해져 있다. |

| 설명 | 1. 질병의 진단수단으로서 환자의 몸을 보는 진단. 만지는 진단, 두드리는 진단, 듣는 진단 등을 통하여 검사하는 것. 신체검사. 2. 건강상태를 알기 위하여 신체의 각 부분을 검사하는 일 또는 법원의 신체에 대한 증거 조사. 일반적으로는 흔히 소지품의 검사라는 뜻으로도 쓰인다. ② 학교보건법상 : 학생들의 체격검사-체질검사-체능검사를 말한다(2조). 학교의 장은 해마다 학생과 교직원의 신체검사를 해야 한다. 다만 교직원에 대한 신체검사는 ‘공무원 및 사립학교교직원 의료보험법’에 의한 건강진단으로 이에 갈음할 수 있다. 신체검사실시의 시기-방법-절차 등은 교육부령으로 정한다(7조). 학교의 장은 신체검사의 결과 전염병에 감염되었거나, 감염되었다는 혐의가 있거나 감염될 우려가 있는 자의 등교를 중지시킬 수 있다(8조). ② 형사소송법상 : 법원이 증거자료를 얻기 위하여 신체를 검증하는 것을 뜻한다. 법원은 사실발견에 필요하면 신체검사를 할 수 있고(140조), 감정인 및 수사기관도 신체검사를 할 수 있다(173-219조). 신체검사는 검사를 당하는 자의 성별-연령-건강상태 기타 사정을 고려하여, 그 사람의 건강과 명예를 해하지 아니하도록 주의하여야 한다. 여자의 신체 검사를 할 때에는 의사나 성년의 여자를 참여시켜야 한다(141조). 법원은 신체 검사를 하기 위하여, 피고인이 아닌 자를 법원 기타의 지정한 장소에 소환할 수 있다(142조). |

| 설명 | 신체적-정신적으로 병이 없는 상태. 세계보건기구(WHO)의 헌장에는 “건강이란 질병이 없거나 허약하지 않은 것만 말하는 것이 아니라 신체적-정신적-사회적으로 완전히 안녕한 상태에 놓여 있는 것”이라고 정의하고 있다. 사람은 인종-종교-정치-경제-사회의 상태 여하를 불문하고 고도의 건강을 누릴 권리가 있다는 것을 명시한 것이다. 즉 과거에는, 건강이란 육체적-정신적으로 질병이나 이상이 없고, 개인적으로 정상적인 생활을 영위할 수 있는 신체상태를 말하였으나, 오늘날에는 개인이 사회생활에 의존하는 경향이 커짐에 따라서 사회가 각 개인의 건강에 기대하는 것도 많아졌기 때문에 사회적인 건강이란 면에서 이와 같은 정의가 생겨난 것으로 보인다. 한국의 헌법에는 건강을 “모든 국민이 마땅히 누려야 할 기본적인 권리”라고 규정하고 있어 건강을 하나의 기본권적 개념으로 보고 있다. 또한 질병이 없는 상태라는 수동적 건강에 대한 태도에서, 금주-금연 등 생활습관의 변화나 운동 같은 적극적으로 건강해지려는 노력 등 능동적 태도가 강조되고 있다. 건강의 구체적 요소로는 육체적인 형태적 요소(신장-체중과 같은 외형적 계측값이나 내장의 여러 기관 등)와 기능적 요소(여러 기관의 생리기능이나 종합적인 체력 등), 정신기능적 요소로 분류하여 평가하기도 한다. |

| 설명 | 집단이나 지역사회의 건강을 연구하는 예방의학. 18세기 중엽부터 산업혁명에 의해 인구가 도시로 집중되고 생활환경이 열악화되어 콜레라나 결핵 등이 유행했기 때문에 그 대책으로 탄생하게 되었다. 우리 나라에서는 광복 후부터 보건소의 설치나 대학의 강좌 신설 등 근대적인 공동보건행정이 이루어지게 되었다. 이 때까지는 일제 식민당국의 경찰력에 의한 명령과 단속으로 시종 해왔다. 현재도 우리나라의 도시 환경 정비가 유럽 여러 나라나 미국에 비해 뒤진 것은 이러한 영향 때문이다. 최근에는 공중보건의 주된 목적이 전염병 대책에서 암-뇌중풍-심장병-당뇨병 등 생활습관병 대책으로 옮겨지고 있다. |
