| Nanophyetus salmincola |
A digenetic trematode (acquired by ingestion of raw, undercooked, or smoked salmon), human infections have now been reported from North America. Symptoms include gastrointestinal complaints or unexplained eosinophilia. Eggs were also recovered from the stool specimens.

a genus of trematodes of the family Troglotrematidae; called also Troglotrema. N. salmin´cola is found in the kidney and under the skin of various fish, especially salmon and trout, and serves as a vector of Neorickettsia helminthoeca, the etiologic agent of salmon poisoning (q.v.). It is transmitted to humans, dogs, cats, foxes, bears, hogs, and other animals by the ingestion of infected raw fish.
